The Acid Bomb is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is a member of the Bombs enemy group. It is only found in the Mineshaft Maze and in the Temple of Trials as part of the Neon Valhalla fight.

Appearance

The Acid Bomb has a tan cylindrical base with metallic brown fins the same color as its launching frame. Its warhead is a large glass orb mostly filled with bright green acid. When launched, it deploys a large white parachute to slow its descent enough that it only lightly touches the ground - unfortunately, the impact is still enough to detonate its corrosive payload.

As with the other Bombs and Turrets in the Mineshaft Maze, it shares the same color scheme as the Steam Fish and the Neon Valhalla.

Overview

Left to its own devices, the Acid Bomb launches itself on its fourth turn, inflicting heavy magical Bio damage with a high chance of Burn. Since the attack is 100% elemental, it can be negated or even absorbed by party members with sufficient Bio resistance. Burn resistance can be helpful to mitigate its associated status effect, but the status is mild enough that it can removed with Purify on the next turn or even ignored for the most part. However, the Acid Bomb can inflict Scorch instead of Burn on Hard or Epic difficulty, so resisting/removing it becomes a greater priority.

Of course, the best solution to the Acid Bomb's attack is to stop it from launching entirely. The three lamps on the bomb indicate how much time you have left, with the green upper one lighting up when it's ready to detonate. If the Acid Bomb is afflicted with Syphon when it's ready to launch, it will be unable to detonate and immediately Surrender - be mindful of its high Syphon resistance, however. If that is not an option, Stun and Freeze will stall its countdown; conveniently, the Acid Bomb is also weak to Water, Thunder, and Ice. Hitting it with a Wet-inducing attack such as Bubble Blast and following it up with Plasma Field or Iceberg should deal heavy damage, while using skills like Electron Gun or Frost Flurry can leave it immobilized while still taking a good chunk out of its HP.

Unlike most foes in EBF5 and like other Bombs, the Acid Bomb cannot be captured to be used as a summon.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

  • Counter = 1 and Syphoned → Surrender;
  • Counter = 1 → Decrease Counter by 1 → Launch;
  • Counter > 1 → Decrease Counter by 1.

* Counter starts at 3.

Unlike most other foes, the Acid Bomb doesn't get a counter when Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled.
