The Ancient Eye is a recurring foe in the Epic Battle Fantasy series, having made its first appearance in the original Epic Battle Fantasy. As per its name, it is usually encountered near ancient buildings and ruins, such as the Kitten Kingdom Ruins (in Epic Battle Fantasy 3) and the Temple of Godcat (in Epic Battle Fantasy 4).

Appearance[]

The Ancient Eye is comprised of five brown spheres adorned with faint markings. The largest sphere acts as its main body, bearing a single, yellow-orange eye with a slit-like pupil in its center. The other four spheres surround the central sphere, with four spikes protruding from each of them.

Overview[]

The Ancient Eye uses nothing but non-elemental attacks; while they're not especially powerful, their damage can only be reduced by defensive buffs or offensive debuffs. It delivers the bulk of its damage with physical attacks from its orb "limbs", but it has some spells that can debuff Magic Attack or inflict Syphon, making it particularly annoying for spellcasters like Natalie. As a flying foe, it also tends to have above-average Evade in games where the stat is relevant.

Ancient Eyes are always weak to Bomb, with Thunder or Ice being common secondary vulnerabilities. On the other hand, Earth and Bio are rarely effective against them.

Epic Battle Fantasy[]

Ancient Eyes appear in the eighteenth and nineteenth waves of the game, serving as the breather between Metaice and Metarock and the Mecha. Their physical attacks are stronger than their magical attacks, but one of their spells hits both players at once and the other can inflict several stacks of Seal.

The Ancient Eye resists Eruption, Fireball, and especially Screamer, but takes extra damage from Thunderbolt, Iceshard, and Airstrike.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

Ancient Eyes use a combination of physical and magical attacks to grind the party down - literally, since their strongest attack turns their orbiting spheres into impromptu buzzsaws. Their physical attacks deal straight damage, but their spells have some nasty side effects; the single-target Pulse has a great chance to inflict several turns of Syphon, while the multi-target Flamethrower frequently cripples the party's Magic Attack. All of their attacks are non-elemental, so there's no way to resist their damage outside of straight stat manipulation. They can also give themselves a massive Attack buff; if this happens, the player should either hit them with Dispel or kill them outright before they can make use of it.

Ancient Eyes are immune to Earth and Poison (both the element and the status), but are weak to Thunder and especially Bomb attacks. Air Strike, Thunderbolt and Plasmacross are the most effective methods to deal with them; Accuracy buffs can be handy to circumvent their good Evade. Syphon is an option to shut down their annoying magic, reducing them to basic physical foes; Berserk locks them into Tackle, but remember that it'll be more powerful thanks to the status.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Ancient Eye relies on physical attacks for the bulk of its damage output, with its magic attacks being more disruptive in nature. Both can inflict Syphon and debuff Magic Attack, but one has stronger effects while the other hits the entire active party at once. Since all of its attacks are non-elemental, the party should focus on keeping their defensive buffs high while hitting the Ancient Eye with offensive debuffs to reduce its damage output and using Syphon resistance to prevent their skills from being locked down.

The Ancient Eye has above-average Accuracy and Evade, with the former being slightly higher than the latter, but its disruption capabilities can be nullified by a taste of its own medicine; in fact, it's severely weak to Syphon, so shutting down its magic is fairly simple.

The Ancient Eye resists Earth and Poison while being weak to Water, Wind, Ice, and especially Bomb. Status-wise, it's immune to Poison but extremely vulnerable to Syphon. With "More Foe Resistance" enabled, it absorbs Earth and Thunder, becomes neutral to Wind, and gains resistances to Stun, Dispel, and Accuracy debuffs.
