Beholding Eye 5
Emo0048 "Ewww, why's this staff gotta be made from dead things?! That's disgusting..."
―Natalie, Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Beholding Eye is a non-elemental staff available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.

Description[]

The Beholding Eye is a black metal cross with a creature resembling a tiny red Beholder impaled on its head. The creature has a red body with three tentacles dangling from the head of the staff, and a large orange eye surrounded by off-white spikes or fangs. The eye has a circular ring for a pupil, surrounded by four small dots.

Normal[]

The Beholding Eye is a support-centered weapon that increases the power of buffs and debuffs alike. This is a very useful combination for Natalie; she has access to every major debuffing skill except for Bind, as well as the single most powerful buffing skill in the game (7th Heaven) in addition to a fair few other buffing skills. Using the Beholding Eye alongside the Rubber Duck and the Cow Costume will maximize Natalie's debuffs while also greatly empowering her buffs, allowing her to take both the roles of the party's main buffer and debuffer at once; this is especially effective for limited-player challenges, as Heavenly Shield only needs a double buff boost to reach the buff cap.

Apart from its role as a buff/debuff enhancing weapon, the Beholding Eye is also valuable for its ability to inflict Virus on hit. It's not quite as proficient as the Biohazard Blaster for applying the status (due to Natalie's poor status infliction options), but it's still almost indispensable for a Virus-focused party, especially since it also lends itself to a strong support build. Outside of Virus strategies, a status-changing Flair can prevent it from becoming a hindrance to Natalie or her allies.

In terms of stats, the Beholding Eye grants pitiful bonuses to Attack and Magic Attack (only above staves that lack offensive boosts entirely), but it also comes with the absolute highest Evade and Accuracy among staves (the latter is tied with the Eagle Eye for the highest Accuracy of any weapon). Aside from Virus, its weapon-elemental skills can unleash Tentacles on the target; the damage is low, but its main asset is its ability to simultaneously inflict 3 stacks of Poison and a -50% Evade debuff (which benefits from the staff's debuff boost). The extra Poison stacks helps wear enemies out faster when running a Virus party, while the Evade debuff can act as a substitute for Bind against single targets.

The Beholding Eye grants resistances to Bio, Dark, Syphon and Disable, becoming immune to the latter two at Level 5.

Equip Remix[]

The Alt Beholding Eye is a Bio-elemental staff with high Magic Attack, great Accuracy (tied with the Alt Gigavolt for the highest among staves), and small boosts to both defenses. While Natalie can't make the best use of its Bio boost without shared skills, its effects allow her to augment her damage output with her weapon-elemental skills; they can inflict Poison to damage their target over time and unleash Acid to debuff the victim's Magic Defence while benefiting from the staff's elemental boost. The staff can also summon a Beholder between turns, inflicting heavy physical Bio damage to a single foe while applying further Poison stacks (and also making them generally uncomfortable); however, this is quite unreliable.

Compared to the Alt Druid Staff (a Bio-focused staff with identical Magic Attack and comparable bulk), the Alt Beholding Eye is more effective at supporting magically-inclined teammates, thanks to its Acid unleash debuffing enemy Magic Defence. It's also immune to two elements when fully forged, with the Bio immunity being particularly useful in a Virus party.

The Alt Beholding Eye resists Bio and Dark, becoming immune to both at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

The Beholding Eye is found in a chest Inside The Tree in the Mystic Woods; the chest is blocked by some spikes, which are controlled by a lever.

Trivia[]

  • The Beholding Eye's in-game description may be a reference to the Eye of Sauron from The Lord of the Rings.
  • The Beholding Eye has design similarities to the Devil's Fork, with both weapons being made of black metal and having a small reddish-orange creature impaled on one end; they also have identical buff boosts and Dark resistance.
  • While possibly coincidental, the Beholding Eye resembles a more visceral version of the Sentinel from EBF3, being a black metal staff with a cross-shaped head and a large orange eye at the center. Both staves also give Natalie a large Accuracy boost and offer skills that improve her hit chance even further (the Sentinel's Unleash greatly boosts Accuracy, while the Beholding Eye can unleash Tentacles to debuff the victim's Evade).
