The Cannon Turret is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is primarily found in the Iron Fortress, but also appears in various other locations such as in The Rapture.
Appearance[]
The Cannon Turret is a large, automated cannon with a small light on one side of the barrel and several antennae and wires on the back. It is primarily black and silver, with glowing red details similar to a Cosmic Monolith.
Like all Turrets, the Cannon Turret emerges from metallic panels in the ground or on the hull of the Neon Valkyrie. It is mounted on a pair of large hinges with red lights that allow it to rotate itself upwards when being deployed or retracted.
Overview[]
The Cannon Turret is an offensive support unit with equal proficiency in damage and disruption. It mainly attacks by shooting at the party for magical Bomb damage and a chance of Stagger; these attacks have pretty good base power, but this only compensates for the Turret's abysmal Magic Attack. It can also cast Electron Gun for several hits of moderate magical Thunder damage and a high chance of a two-turn Confuse. On the support side of things, it can designate a player as a Target for foes, cast Lock On to give an ally a massive Accuracy buff (and Good Luck on Hard or Epic Difficulty), and use Mute to try and Syphon a player's skills.
The simplest way to beat a Cannon Turret is to inflict Syphon on it; this will cause it to malfunction and immediately Surrender. Even without that, it has no resistances while being immune to only Wind, Bio, Poison, Virus, and Stagger; on the other hand, it's weak to Water, Bomb, and especially Thunder and Earth. This leaves it easily debuffed to uselessness or immobilized via Freeze or Stun; applying Wet can make it even more vulnerable to the latter status effects while also amplifying its serious Thunder weakness. Keep in mind that the Cannon Turret loses its Earth weakness if it's mounted on the Neon Valkyrie; it also gets a boost to its base Magic Attack, letting it hit significantly harder.
The "More Foe Resistance" challenge gives the Cannon Turret an additional immunity to Fire and Water while enabling it to absorb Dark. If it's mounted on the Neon Valkyrie, it becomes resistant to Earth instead of neutral.
Unlike most foes in EBF5 and like other Turrets, the Cannon Turret cannot be captured to be used as a summon. It is also somewhat notable for being guaranteed to drop a Hand Bomb when defeated, having the highest drop rate for the item among non-boss foes.

Battle Logic[]
The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.
- If Syphoned → Surrender;
- If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Big Blast;
- If Berserked → Big Blast (1/2), Triple Shot (1/2);
- Otherwise → Big Blast (1/4), Triple Shot (1/4);
- If selected target already has Target → Mute (1/6), Lock On (1/6), Electron Gun (1/6);
- Otherwise → Set Target (1/8), Mute (1/8), Lock On (1/8), Electron Gun (1/8).
* If Lock On's selected target already has at least a 10% Accuracy buff, it retargets to a different foe, unless no other foes are alive (unless no other targets are available).
Unlike most other foes, the Cannon Turret doesn't get a counter when Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled.
Trivia[]
- Despite being the Neon Valkyrie's default Turret attachment, the Cannon Turret cannot be summoned by the tank during its boss fight; instead, the Neon Valkyrie will summon a Harpoon Turret, a Laser Turret, or a Nuclear Bomb.
- While it has a passing resemblance to the Laser Turret of older games, the Cannon Turret also has similarities to the "Tank Top" (the main cannon of the Valkyrie Tank); both are the initial helper of a tank designed by Lance, using powerful magical explosives and not respawning when destroyed/deactivated.
