The Cat Warrior is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is found peppered across the map, primarily in No Man's Land and as a helper for Laurelin.

Appearance[]

Cat Warriors are simple limbless cats which (somehow) wield a sword and shield, which happen to look much like NoLegs's Cat Toys. They can wield any combination of the Steel Buckler, the Viking Buckler, and what appears to be a combination of the Elven Shield's sword and a silver version of the Star Hammer's shield.

Overview[]

The Cat Warrior is an improved version of the Cat Soldier from the previous games. It has two moderately strong non-elemental physical attacks which hit three times; one hits a single player and the other hits random players for slightly more damage per hit. It can also raise its shield to give itself Defend, as well as Brave on higher difficulty levels.

While generally a nuisance at best, Cat Warriors tend to attack the player with the lowest HP; this can make them surprisingly dangerous if paired with foes with high damage output or strong offensive buffs. Their Evade is slightly higher than average, but this is generally negligible; on the other hand, their shield gives them impressive defenses even before they Defend themselves. Fortunately, the shield can be knocked away if a Cat Warrior suffers a powerful blow (over 20% of its maximum HP in a single hit), halving its defenses and disabling its Defend ability. Applying Berserk can also prevent a Cat Warrior from guarding itself, but it's probably easier to immobilize it with other status effects or just kill it outright.

The Cat Warrior has absolutely no resistances and several elemental weaknesses: Fire, Thunder, Water, and especially Bio. If "More Foe Resistance" is enabled, its Water and Bio weaknesses are reduced to 30% and it becomes neutral to Fire and Thunder.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If it's Berserked, it lost its shield, or it used Defend last turn → Triple Hit (1/2), Hop & Hit (1/2);
  • Otherwise → Triple Hit (1/3), Hop & Hit (1/3), Defend (1/3).

Additionally, the Cat Warrior has a 50% chance to target the most damaged player with its attacks.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 100% → Hop & Hit.

Summon[]

The Cat Warrior can be captured and used as a summon; it can also be randomly summoned by the Knight's Helmet.
