The Chunky Gloop (known as Stone Gloop in several demos) is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is typically found in rocky areas, such as around Hope Harbor.

Appearance[]

The Chunky Gloop resembles a brown stone split in half horizontally, with a black blob visible between the two halves. A pair of small, angry white eyes are visible on the blob, and two slim arms with small hands and stubby fingers stick out of the cracked stone. The bottom part of the rock has several short protrusions that act as legs to let the Gloop move around.

Chunky Gloops have two variants:

  1. A Gloop with three horn-like protrusions on the upper part of its shell, with a thin brown rope entangled on them
  2. A Gloop with a rounded shape to the upper part of its shell, almost appearing to have multiple round rocks fused on top of each other.

Overview[]

The Chunky Gloop is a basic defensive foe that uses physical Dark and Earth attacks, but with very low elemental %, meaning resistance is futile. Most of the Chunky Gloop's attacks are single-target. It can Defend itself to boost its Magic Defence by a decent amount, which can be bypassed with physical attacks. It has slightly below-average Evade.

On Hard and Epic difficulty, the Chunky Gloop gains several new tricks. Its Dark attacks have a small chance of inflicting Heavy on their targets, increasing the damage of its Earth attacks. It can also cast Invisibility on a player to increase the power of magical attacks against them, such as the Gaia Seed spell it can use afterwards. This is particularly dangerous in groups. Its Defend ability also makes it Invisible, preventing players from bypassing its Magic Defence buff as easily. The player should either Dispel it or hit it with Enchanted to negate it.

The Chunky Gloop absorbs Dark and resists Fire, Earth, Thunder, and debuffs to its defenses. On the other hand, it is weak to Bomb and Holy, but its biggest weakness is Ice. Not only does it take more damage from Ice attacks, it is very weak to Chill, Wet, and Freeze, so the player should try to set up Ice-based combos against it.

With "More Foe Resistance" active, the Chunky Gloop absorbs Earth and Thunder, becomes neutral to Bomb, and has its Ice weakness greatly reduced.

Summon[]

The Chunky Gloop can be captured and used as a summon. It casts Invisibility on a single foe, doubling any magical damage and nullifying any physical damage they receive. While the Obsidian Staff and the Gaia's Gift are more efficient for damage stacking (with weapon-elemental skills able to apply damage-boosting status effects at the same time as Invisible), the Chunky Gloop can still effectively amplify magic damage or cancel out enemy Enchanted in absence of these weapons.
