The Club of Withering is a non-elemental sword available to Matt in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
Description[]
The Club of Withering is a large bludgeon crafted from what appears to be the skull of an unknown beast. Eight rotten gray teeth are still visible along its edge, as is some form of cavity/eye socket. Although it appears to be a single piece of bone, the leather-like wrappings around its hilt and the protruding bones on its back edge suggest that it may actually be several bones tied together; alternatively, the wrappings are intended to increase grip and reinforce the club's structure. A pair of White Feathers are tied to the middle of the club by black string.
Normal[]
With below-average boosts to both offences and a small boost to both defenses, the Club of Withering's stats are unimpressive at best. Its main purpose is to lower Magic Defence and inflict Weaken with weapon-elemental skills; the former benefits from its innate debuff boost to leave foes extremely vulnerable to allied magic attacks. It can also unleash Bones, which has a low chance of inflicting Doom, and cast Bone Star between turns, which can inflict Syphon; both are certainly useful, but neither is particularly important.
While Lance or Natalie tend to be superior debuffers than Matt, they also have strong spells that benefit from the Club of Withering's support, including Dark magic that is further boosted by Weaken. Status-changing Flairs can be used to empower different kinds of attacks; alternatively, Matt can use the Crossbone Pin to inflict Curse and maintain the Magic Defence debuffs (and power up Natalie's Holy skills). However, the Devil's Fork and the Love Blade will usually surpass the Club of Withering as support swords, despite its niche in magic-focused parties.
The Club of Withering gives no elemental resistances, but protects against six status effects: Tired, Weaken, Confuse, Stagger, Bad Luck, and Curse. At Level 5, it becomes immune to all of them.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Club of Withering has no stats besides the lowest offensive boosts of any sword in Equip Remix, only ahead of weapons with no Attack or Magic Attack bonuses at all. However, its ability to empower debuffs works with the strong Defence drop inflicted by its weapon-elemental skills to effectively turn Slicing Cyclone into a damaging Debilitate with a 1-turn cooldown. This is quite useful when assisting a physically offensive party, especially paired with the likes of the Alt Fenrir's Jaw or the Alt Chainsaw Gun. The sword's support abilities can be further enhanced by equipping Flairs that boost the elemental damage of the party's main attacker (e.g. using the Alt Baby Penguin to apply Wet for the Alt Neon Lightbulb), or just using the Alt Crossbone Pin to further degrade enemy defenses via Curse.
For a support weapon, the Alt Club of Withering has surprisingly powerful bonus skills; it can unleash Bone Pillar with weapon-elemental skills and summon a Bone Golem between turns. Both attacks can inflict Weaken while benefiting from the sword's ability to cripple enemy Defence, allowing them to deal decent damage despite its poor offensive stats and lack of a non-elemental boost; unfortunately, their poor trigger chance makes relying on them a questionable strategy.
The Alt Club of Withering resists Tired, Weaken, Death, Doom, Bad Luck, and Curse. It becomes immune to all of them at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
The Club of Withering is found inside a chest in The Void, accessible after defeating the The Glitch.

Trivia[]
- The Club of Withering can be considered part of a subset of bone-themed weapons in EBF5, along with the Human Skull, the Kaladanda, The Deceased, and the Spine Snapper. Other than their visual appearance, their common themes include being focused around debuffs, being able to inflict either Instant Death or Doom (either directly or through bonus/auto skills), and being Non-elemental (except for the Spine Snapper).
- The Club of Withering can be specifically seen as a counterpart to the Kaladanda as a weapon that focuses on increasing the damage of the opposite type of attacks that its wielder specializes in.
- In Equip Remix, the Alt Club of Withering can specifically be seen as the physical counterpart to the Alt Human Skull, both being most valuable for the massive defensive debuffs they can inflict with weapon-elemental skills.
