The Cutie Worm is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is usually found around Hope Harbor (e.g. there is one accompanying the Putrid Worms in the Farmer's Market) and the Mystic Woods.

Appearance[]

The Cutie Worm is a caterpillar-like creature with a white underbelly and face, a pink back, yellow eyes, pink ribbon-like protrusions on its head, and two pairs of red heart-patterned wings on its back. It can have one of three expressions:

  1. A neutral expression, with a small horizontal line for a mouth.
  2. A small, triangular frown.
  3. A cat-like smile similar to Slimes.

Overview[]

The Cutie Worm is a passive foe that prefers to support its allies instead of attacking the heroes. It can use Star Power to greatly increase an ally's Magic Attack, Renew to restore their HP, or Cherish to make them Lovable and immune to being directly targeted by the players' skills. It can also Curl Up to boost its Evade by a fair amount, and all of its moves have a small chance to summon another Worm; this Worm can be any species besides the Book Worm or another Cutie Worm. Multi-target attacks are effective at picking off the reinforcements and negating the benefits of Lovable.

Despite what its Bestiary description says, the Cutie Worm is capable of damaging players with the non-elemental Sting and Bite attacks common to Worms; however, it will only do so if its support abilities are not needed or if it is afflicted with Syphon or Berserk. Its physical attacks are weak, inaccurate, and not particularly notable - aside from Bite's odd ability to inflict Lovable on its target - so inflicting these statuses is a good way to stop the Cutie Worm from supporting other foes.

On higher difficulty levels, the Cutie Worm enters battle with three stacks of Lovable, preventing it from being directly targeted for a while. Its Star Power and Curl Up skills also apply some Good Luck in addition to their normal bonuses, and the chance of it summoning Worm reinforcements has doubled.

The Cutie Worm absorbs Holy (and Water if "More Foe Resistance" is enabled), but is weak to Earth, Dark, and especially Bio. It is also highly susceptible to Poison and Virus, which makes Poison Gas especially deadly against them; it deals Bio damage, inflicts Poison, and ignores Lovable.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If Berserked → Bite;
  • If Syphoned → Sting (1/2), Bite (1/2);
  • Otherwise → Sting (1/5), Bite (1/5);
    • If the Cutie Worm already has an Evade buff;
      • If the most damaged foe is >79% HP → Star Power (3/5);
      • If the most damaged foe is ≤79% HP and isn't Lovable → Renew (3/10), Cherish (3/10);
      • Otherwise → Renew (3/5);
    • Otherwise → Curl Up (1/5);
      • If the most damaged foe is >79% HP → Star Power (2/5);
      • If the most damaged foe is ≤79% HP and isn't Lovable → Renew (1/5), Cherish (1/5);
      • Otherwise → Renew (2/5).

* Cherish and Renew will always target the most damaged foe.

Additionally, any action other than Surrender has a 20% (40% in Hard/Epic) chance to summon either a Putrid, Fuzzy or Scaly Worm, these will be at the same level as the user.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 25% → Curl Up.

Summon[]

The Cutie Worm can be captured and used as a summon. It is notable as one of the only means for players to cure themselves of neutral status effects, which generally ignore the curative effects of skills like Purify or Health Strike.

Trivia[]

  • The Cutie Worm's Bestiary/summon icon misaligns its left head protrusion to face forward instead of sideways.
