The Demon Mirror is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It usually appears in late-game areas, such as The Rapture.

Appearance[]

The Demon Mirror takes the form of a rectangular mirror with a black frame. The black frame has an infernal, lava-like coloration seemingly flowing from the corners. Various spikes like those seen in a stereotypical church railing jut out of its top and bottom, while an additional pair of black spikes hover at its sides. Two red eyes can be seen in the middle of the mirror's frame if it's not broken.

Overview[]

The Demon Mirror uses primarily physical attacks, including some with a partial Dark element and a Fire-based attack that can Burn its target. Like all Mirrors, it can break itself to deal multiple hits of non-elemental magical damage, but this also limits it to a basic physical attack afterwards.Like the other Mirrors, this foe can "reflect" attacks; this simply means counterattacking to them, not nullifying/reducing their damage, though the counter has same elemental properties as the attack it's hit with. The counter's damage is based on how much HP the Mirror lost, multiplied by a set amount depending on the difficulty level. If dealt enough damage or provoked into using its Glass Shard Volley, a Mirror can be broken, causing it to lose its Reflection ability and most of its attacks; keep in mind that a player will suffer Bad Luck if they're the one to break it.

The Demon Mirror reflects only physical damage, meaning magic attacks will allow the players to damage it without retaliation. As such, using skills such as Judgement or Plasma Field should give the best results. If you're certain that you can kill or break it in one strike (or if it's already broken via using Glass Shards), a strong physical attack can exploit its slightly lower Defence.

On higher difficulty levels, the Demon Mirror's Fire attack inflicts Scorch instead of Burn, making it slightly more dangerous. It also gains the ability to buff its allies' Attack with Sharpen; fortunately, it can't extend the duration of Status Effects with the skill.

The Demon Mirror absorbs Dark and Fire while resisting Earth; on the other hand, it's weak to Holy, Water, and especially Thunder. It is also vulnerable to all debuffs and status effects, especially Light, Heavy, and Stun. If "More Foe Resistance" is enabled, it loses its Holy and Water weaknesses while becoming immune to Ice, Stun, Doom, and Instant Death.

The mirror breaks when hurt for >50% HP in one hit and left with <24% HP, or by any attack that leaves it with <14% HP or kills it. This gives the attacker 2x (3x on Hard/Epic) Bad Luck (ignoring resistances, Bless, and Evade), unless broken by a weather attack or foe's own Glass Shard Volley skill.

Power is equal to % of Max HP lost by the attack modified by a multiplier based on difficulty (0.2x on Zero, 0.4x on Easy, 0.7x on Normal, 1x on Hard/Endless and 1.5x on Epic); will not trigger against attacks that heal the mirror. Element is the same as the attack's, with 100% element degree (even if the attack itself was only partially elemental). Will not trigger if the attack breaks the mirror. Damage is doubled if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

  • If catch score >55, all players are Lovable, and the mirror is broken → Surrender;
  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Nothing;
  • If Syphoned or Broken → Bash;
  • If Berserked → Glass Shard Volley
  • <39% HP → Glass Shard Volley (4/8), Bash (1/8), Fiery Claw (1/8), Multi-stab (1/8);
    • If playing on Hard/Epic and a randomly selected foe has less than a 10% Attack buff → Sharpen (1/16), Black Spikes (1/16);
    • Otherwise → Black Spikes (1/8);
  • Otherwise → Bash (1/4), Fiery Claw (1/4), Multi-stab (1/4);
    • If playing on Hard/Epic and a randomly selected foe has less than a 10% Attack buff → Sharpen (1/8), Black Spikes (1/8);
    • Otherwise → Black Spikes (1/4).

Summon[]

The Demon Mirror can be captured to be used as a summon. When used, Invisibility is cast on all frontline allies, nullifying any physical attacks for a turn, this is mainly useful against bosses who use mainly physical attacks, like Neon Valhalla or Matteus. Note that most bosses who only use physical attacks (such as Ultra Chibi Knight) will have the ability to remove Invisible in order to prevent them from being trivialized through abuse of the status.
