The Dish Turret, also known as Satelite Dish (sic), is a foe that appears in Epic Battle Fantasy 2 and 4. In the former, it is deployed by the Valkyrie Tank; in the latter, it is found in the Waste Disposal Plant.

Appearance[]

The Dish Turret is a tall, somewhat jagged piece of metal with at least eight satellite dishes and three antennae mounted on it. The dishes can rotate forward and emit beams of electricity for one of its attacks. It is almost entirely metallic gray, except for some tiny yellow lights near the very top.

Like all Turrets, the Dish Turret emerges from a metallic panel on the ground or a hatch on the back of the Valkyrie Tank.

Overview[]

The Dish Turret's offensive threat varies between appearances, but its true specialty tends to be harassing the party with nasty debuffs and Status Effects. Its most consistent trick is Signal Jammer, which hits all active players for mild non-elemental magic damage and a high chance of Syphon. It typically resists Fire and Bio damage, along with many status effects; Bomb and Thunder attacks are its most recurring weaknesses.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2[]

The Satelite Dish is the Valkyrie Tank's dedicated support/disruptor unit, with multi-target attacks that can inflict Seal or debuff Attack and Magic Attack. It can't do this if it's Sealed in turn, but it can still use its Thunder Burst to inflict decent magical Thunder damage. On Hard or Epic difficulty, its Debuffing Waves gain a second "hit" that can debuff Defence or Magic Defence in addition to Attack or Magic Attack, its Thunder Burst has a substantial chance to automatically repeat itself for doubled damage (and it could loop repeatedly prior to the Epic Battle Fantasy Collection version), and it automatically buffs the Valkyrie's Magic Defence if it is destroyed.

All of the Dish Turret's skills have high Accuracy, so trying to dodge them is inadvisable. If you can bypass its Seal resistance, it's essentially reduced to a slightly weaker Omega Lazor; it's not harmless (especially on Epic), but it can't deliver the sheer burst damage of a SHOOP DA WHOOP. Of course, if it's too annoying to deal with, careful management of the Valkyrie Tank's opening helpers (Lance and an Omega Lazor) can delay or even prevent the possibility of a Satelite Dish's appearance.

The Satelite Dish is weak to Bomb and especially Thunder, but resists Fire, Poison, and Earth (to a lesser degree). It's also resistant to all status effects and debuffs, being completely immune to Poison and Blind and having a hard debuff cap of 40%. As with all of the Valkyrie's helpers (apart from Lance), half of the damage inflicted upon it is also inflicted on the main boss.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Dish Turret uses pure Thunder-elemental magic attacks, but it doesn't have particularly impressive damage output. However, its ability to reliably inflict Syphon, Dispel and Stun makes it a very annoying support unit. Aside from Plasma Cage, all of its attacks hit the entire front line at once; while Thunder Burst's Stun chance is thankfully very low, Signal Jammer and Dispel can throw the party's strategies into chaos, especially if there's more immediately dangerous enemies to worry about.

Fortunately, the Dish Turret can't take a taste of its own medicine; while it resists Stun, Freeze, and Syphon, any of these effects will leave it completely helpless for their duration. Wet does it no favors; it's usually inflicted by one of its elemental weaknesses and it amplifies the damage of an even worse one; conversely, the Dish Turret can exploit Wet just as easily if applied to the players (often by a Fridge Turret). It's also saddled with terribly low Evade, which makes dodging the party's attacks nigh-impossible.

The Dish Turret is immune to Wind, Bio, Poison, Burn, and Stagger while resisting Fire, Freeze, Stun, Doom, and Instant Death. On the other hand, it's weak to Water, Earth, and especially Bomb and Thunder. Activating "More Foe Resistance" reduces its Bomb and Thunder weaknesses and makes it immune to Accuracy debuffs.

For farming purposes, the Dish Turret is notable for being the second-best source of the Blank CD (only behind the more powerful Defender) and the best Red LED source among foes. It can even drop a Plasma Ball or a Plutonium Core, although their drop rates are infeasibly low.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2[]

  • Sealed → Thunder Burst;
  • Otherwise → Thunder Burst (1/3), Signal Jammer (1/3), Debuffing Wave (1/3).

Additionally, if playing on Hard or higher difficulties, the Satelite Dish will use its Buff on the Valkyrie Tank when it's defeated.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

  • Syphoned → Nothing;
  • Otherwise → Thunder Burst (1/4), Signal Jammer (1/4), Dispel (1/4), Plasma Cage (1/4).

Trivia[]

  • Some of the satellite dishes adorning the Dish Turret are based on selectable parts from the Mecha Dress Up Game; notably, the three dishes on its front are arranged nearly identically to the ones on the shoulder of the Mecha from Epic Battle Fantasy.
