The Earth Dragon (Brown Dragon in EBF4) is a foe and a summon introduced in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. It is frequently found in far-off areas associated with ruins, such as the Forgotten Ruins or the Temple of Godcat.
Appearance[]
The Brown Dragon is a massive reptilian beast whose head and neck are all that can be seen on screen. It has a shorter snout than most Dragons, with large tan horns protruding from its head and chin. Three dark brown scars can be seen below its green eyes, presumably a memento of a previous battle. Its light brown mouth is filled with small, blunt teeth, and it has a pair of strange holes in the side of its head (possibly ears) surrounded by long brown spines with light brown membranes between them. Its neck is light brown on the bottom and darker brown on the top, with several short spines protruding between the scales of the latter.
In EBF5, the Earth Dragon has a smoother appearance than its EBF4 equivalent, with the scars under its eyes being replaced by light brown scars around its mouth and on the back of its head. Its "ears" were made larger (particularly the lower hole), its horns became slightly more jagged, and the spikes on its neck are smaller than before.
Overview[]
If its name and color scheme didn't tip you off, the Earth Dragon is a powerful foe that uses a lot of Earth and Bio attacks. It has a mixture of physical and magical attacks (favoring the former), as well as a roar that improves its allies' defenses, mainly on the physical side. It has numerous resistances (most notably Earth absorption and Thunder immunity), but it's weak to Water and Ice and has no resistance to Wet, allowing players to set up a highly damaging combo.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]
The Brown Dragon uses strong single-target physical attacks for the bulk of its damage output. In contrast, its magical attacks are weak, but they hit the entire party at once and can inflict Poison or debuff the party's Accuracy and Magic Defence. It can also roar to give itself and its allies Morale and a significant Defence buff. While it lacks a "Megaflare" attack like most Dragons, it instead takes a page from the Zombie Hydra's book and smashes an unlucky player with its tail, dealing severe damage and possibly inflicting Stagger. Its offensive stats are quite high, making its physical attacks even more devastating and giving its magic attacks a little more punch despite their low base power.
Syphon limits the Brown Dragon to its basic Headbutt, but it's very resistant to the status. On the other hand, Berserk gives it a power boost and access to all of its moves, which is largely detrimental. Its main weaknesses are Water and Ice, so a Wet combo will do extreme damage; Iceshard bypasses any Defence buffs it might give itself, but a Wet-boosted Frost Arrow will have a decent chance to Freeze it despite its high resistance. If "More Foe Resistance" is active, Holy becomes the only other element it doesn't resist and Poison becomes ineffective at wearing it down, since it gains a strong Bio absorption.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
The Earth Dragon can threaten the party from both sides of the offensive spectrum; although it still favors physical attacks, its magic attacks can deal decent damage in addition to their annoying status effects and debuffs. It has Earth, Bio, and Fire skills, as well as the ability to Dry players to increase the latter's damage; on higher difficulties, it can also lower Magic Defence and inflict Scorch. Its roar can debuff the party's Attack while simultaneously buffing the foes' Defence, making things much harder for physical attackers.
Fire resistance is helpful against the Earth Dragon; three of its attacks are pure Fire-elemental. Earth resistance can soften the blow of its Ground Pound and especially its deadly Cataclysm attack, but Bio resistance is comparatively unimportant, especially with status-clearing support. Keep in mind that the Earth Dragon will actively target players with the least Fire and Earth resistance for Volcano and Cataclysm respectively.
Defensively, the Earth Dragon has numerous resistances backing its Earth absorption and Death immunity, but its Evade is on the low side and it's weak to Water and especially Ice. Coupled with no resistance to Wet, Stagger, or Curse, the party can set up a very powerful combo against it. Weaken and Tired work with Curse to reduce its stats by up to 50%; this is less effective in "More Foe Resistance", where the Dragon's debuff resistance increases slightly and it becomes very resistant to Weaken, Tired, and Curse.

Summon[]
The Earth Dragon can be captured to be used as a summon. It uses its Roar to severely debuff the Magic Defence of all enemies and then follows up with Poison Puke to deal some magical Bio damage.
The Earth Dragon summon is essentially a more accurate, powered-up version of Acid Blast that debuffs Magic Defence before dealing damage, allowing it to strengthen its own attack in addition to the party's magical follow-ups. Although Enfeeble will usually be more effective, especially with debuff-boosting gear, the Earth Dragon remains an option if Enfeeble is on cooldown, especially against Bio-weak foes.

Trivia[]
- Outside of the Premium-exclusive Battle Mountain, the Brown Dragon appears in exactly one battle in EBF4 — right behind the Blood Orb-powered gates on the way to the upper part of the Temple of Godcat. This makes it the rarest non-boss foe in EBF4.
- The Brown Dragon is one of the only Dragons in the series to attack with its tail, discounting Hydras and the closely-related Zombie Dragon.
- The Brown Dragon is the only dragon to make an appearance in EBF5 without being replaced by an expy.
- Prior to the v2 update, the Brown Dragon's leftmost tooth wasn't fully colored, leaving a part of it transparent.
- In EBF5, the Earth Dragon is the only Dragon that can't be summoned automatically by the party's equipment. In contrast, the Sea Dragon can be summoned by the Alt Nimbus Rod, the Sky Dragon can be summoned by the Alt Dragon's Feather, the Omega Dragon can be summoned by the normal version of the Dragon Wings, and the Origami Dragon can be summoned by the Alt Buster Sword.
