The Earthquake Bomb is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is a member of the Bombs enemy group. It is found in the Mineshaft Maze, and is also summoned by Neon Valhalla.

Appearance

The Earthquake Bomb is a tan-colored bomb with a color scheme much like the Steam Fish and the Neon Valhalla, with a countdown light next to it. The bomb resembles a giant drill.

Overview

You get three turns to destroy the bomb, and can buy more time with status effects that prevent it from taking a turn — Stun and Freeze. The three lamps on the bomb indicate how much time is left, with the green upper one lighting up when it's ready to launch. If the Earthquake Bomb is Syphoned by the time it's ready to launch, the bomb will be unable to detonate and will Surrender instead.

The Earthquake Bomb's explosion doesn't deal that much damage and can be easily resisted, but the problem is that it'll fall onto a player from the skies prior to exploding, dealing extremely high mostly non-elemental damage that is likely to kill the target even on lower difficulties. And the follow-up explosion could finish them off if they survived through Auto-Revive or Morale without Earth resistance.

However, both of these attacks are physical, and can be nullified by the Invisible status, making the bomb harmless (besides the Stagger status the explosion inflicts, which can be resisted normally). If a player is given the Target Badge/Agnry Faic and an Invisible-applying gear (Ninja Gear or Ninja Skirt), the Earthquake Bomb can be reduced to its Explode attack, which is far milder. Yet, if there is any danger of somebody using magic, such as other types of Bombs (which deal magic damage and thus would deal double damage due to Invisible), the only practical choice is to destroy the bomb. Hitting it with a Wetting-attack such as Bubble Blast and following it up with Plasma Field or Iceberg should deal heavy damage.

Unlike most foes in EBF5 and like other Bombs, the Earthquake Bomb cannot be captured to be used as a summon.

Battle Logic

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

  • Counter = 0 and Syphoned → Surrender;
  • Counter = 0 → Launch;
  • Counter > 0 → Decrease Counter by 1.

* Counter starts at 3.

Unlike most other foes, the Earthquake Bomb doesn't get a counter when Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled.
