The Electric Bat is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It's typically found in the Iron Fortress, although one first appears near the monolith in the Wild Tropics.

Appearance[]

The Electric Bat is a small flying creature with yellow fur covering its body and feet, small "ears" shaped like lightning bolts, and a face consisting of two beady yellow-tinted eyes and a small mouth. Unlike other Bats, it has six transparent yellow wings shaped like diamonds; it is unclear if these are meant to be membranes or pure energy.

The Electric Bat has three visual variants based on the shape of its mouth: a small triangular frown, a wider, curved frown, or a small curved smile.

Overview[]

The Electric Bat is a relatively low-level foe that can potentially be annoying but is easily dispatched. It has three Thunder attacks to choose from; they can inflict Stun and Confuse, but the chances are extremely low (although the Stun chance on its physical attack triples on higher difficulty levels). Its strongest attack, Thunderbolt, has slightly above-average Accuracy and hits three times, but it's still not especially damaging.

While the Electric Bat's status effects are irritating if you're unlucky enough to have them take effect, minimal Stun and Confuse resistance will negate the risk. Its attacks are pure elemental, so Thunder resistance will further reduce its unimpressive damage output, and it's completely vulnerable to all debuffs and ailments aside from Stun. Notably, it's extremely vulnerable to Weaken and Tired, and it can be completely shut down by Syphon; unlike most foes, which switch to a different moveset, the Electric Bat will do absolutely nothing if Syphoned. With that said, its fragility means that simply hitting it with a powerful attack may be more efficient; multi-target skills such as Razor Leaf and Shockwave can take it out while the party focuses the brunt of their offense on more dangerous foes.

The Electric Bat absorbs Thunder, is immune to Earth and Stun, and resists Dark. However, it's weak to Bio and especially Wind, also having a massive vulnerability to Weaken and Tired. Enabling "More Foe Resistance" removes its Wind weakness and makes it immune to Dark and Holy.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If Syphoned → Nothing;
  • If Berserked → Electric Shock;
  • Otherwise → Electric Shock (1/3), Thunderbolt (1/3), Plasma Ball (1/3).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 25% and not Syphoned → Plasma Ball.

Summon[]

The Electric Bat can be captured and used as a summon. It inflicts the maximum amount of Confuse stacks on the entire active party, causing them to act randomly for nine turns. This gives it the ignoble distinction of being the objectively worst summon in the entire game, with no tangible benefits and an extreme risk of having the party use weak or outright detrimental skills for a very long time. The game even lampshades this (see below) by informing you to not use this summon during Boss battles.
