Fat Fly

The Fat Fly is a Flair available in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.

Description

The Fat Fly is a large, black fly with a round body, two translucent wings, four short legs, and an almost cat-like face. It hovers over the wearer's shoulder when in use.

The Fat Fly can cast Fly Bomb between turns, dealing minor Bio damage to a single target with a chance of inflicting Virus, but its main ability lets the wearer inflict Doom with their weapon-elemental attacks. It doesn't stack with other status-replacing Flairs; if multiple are worn, only the leftmost one will be applied.

With three pieces of status-boosting gear and the Good Luck status, the Fat Fly's wearer will have a roughly 210.94% chance of inflicting Doom; if the target is also suffering from Bad Luck, the chance increases to 263.67% while also turning Doom into Instant Death. In other words, a Fat Fly status build with Good/Bad Luck support (e.g. Firecrackers) is guaranteed to instantly kill anything with up to 50% Death/Doom resistance while having a good chance of killing 70% resistant foes. This allows it to quite easily steamroll entire battles unless the opposition is outright immune to Doom and Death.

Unfortunately, the Fat Fly is only available near the end of the game, when Death-immune foes are common. However, it can still be useful in the few battles without such foes, as well as the Monster Marathon in the Temple of Trials.

The Fat Fly moderately resists Bio and Dark, up to 30% at Level 3. In Equip Remix, its Dark resistance is replaced by a Wind resistance of the same degree.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Fat Fly is found inside a chest that drops after defeating THE MAW, in a secret room in The Rapture (inside the Zombie Hydra's cave). Prior to the v2 update, it was found inside a chest in the Mystic Woods (one screen north of the Slime Cat).

Trivia

• The Fat Fly's sprite is used for the flies seen in the animations of Fly Bomb, one of NoLegs's random idle animations, and the animation of Matt's dead body being moved in and out of battle.
• The Fat Fly resembles some of the Fly enemies in The Binding of Isaac video game.
