The Gas Mask is a male headgear found in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5. It currently has no armor counterparts.
Description[]
The Gas Mask is a black mask that completely covers the user's face, with a visible seam down the middle and large, round eyeholes covered by red lenses. It also has an air filter over the mouth, with a dark grey tube attached to one side that connects to the top of the mask.
In EBF5, the Gas Mask's lenses are transparent and it has two small antennae at the top, seemingly aligned with its seam; additionally, the tube on its side has become black instead of grey. If worn by NoLegs, it adds two points for his ears, and its lenses appear purple due to his blue fur.
The Gas Mask usually has mediocre stats, including small penalties to Accuracy and Evade, but good resistance to Poison/Bio and its associated status effects. It also has the debatable ability to randomly summon Poison Gas between turns; while useful for foes with serious Poison weaknesses and/or ways to lock down the party's offenses, enemies that utilize Poison tend to absorb Bio, making it difficult to use the Gas Mask defensively and offensively at the same time.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]
The Gas Mask has moderate Defence at the cost of minor penalties to Accuracy and Evade, but a lack of Magic Defence can be problematic against magically-inclined foes like Monoliths or Skull Ghosts. Its Poison Gas auto-skill is useful for passively damaging foes, who rarely have means to clear Poison from themselves; however, using it on Poison-resistant foes is exceedingly detrimental. If its auto-skill and resistances aren't needed, the Captain Hat has identical Defence and otherwise superior stats, along with a reasonably useful Hand Bomb boost.
The Gas Mask resists the Poison element and the Stun status effect, becoming immune to both at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]
The Gas Mask offers average amounts of Defence and Magic Defence while slightly lowering Accuracy and Evade. It can cast Poison Gas between turns, letting Matt or Lance deal damage over time to non-resistant foes; outside of this niche, it's largely outclassed by the likes of the Puppy Hat or the Space Helmet.
The Gas Mask is resistant to Bio and Poison. It becomes immune to the latter at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

In exchange for some Accuracy and Evade, the Gas Mask gives its wearer an overall bulk increase by improving their Defence, Magic Defence and HP by fair amounts. It has a decent chance to cast Poison Gas between turns to chip away at foes.
The Gas Mask's most obvious niche is as part of a Virus party, rendering its wearer immune to the status while allowing him to passively stack even more Bio damage over time on the relevant foes. Outside of this, it struggles to stand out next to the several male hats with comparable/superior bulk and more versatile effects.
The Gas Mask resists Bio, Poison, and Virus, becoming immune to the latter two at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Gas Mask's stats aren't spectacular, with average Defence and Magic Defence boosts and a mild Accuracy drop, but its potential for debilitation is quite another story. It increases the wearer's ability to inflict Status Effects and improves his debuff skills, making him much more effective at disrupting the opposition.
While useful for any status and/or debuffing build, the Alt Gas Mask works particularly well with Lance; aside from having access to more debuffing skills than Matt or NoLegs, he has some dangerous status options via the likes of the Alt Thunder Core, the Alt Sub Zero, or the Alt Spine Snapper (mind the latter's additional Accuracy penalty, though). Its enormous Bio resistance gives it a niche in Virus parties; in particular, NoLegs can pair it with the Alt Blood Bank to give himself a decent pseudo-Regen if he catches Virus during his Berserk-boosted rampages.
Compared to the Alt Spelunking Hat (which also boosts debuffs), the Alt Gas Mask has more bulk and stronger Dark resistance, but it lacks an Evade bonus, an auto-skill, and a buff boost. On the other hand, its debuff boost and immunity to two elements serve as its main advantages over the Alt Dragon Helm, which has better stats and an identical status boost.
The Alt Gas Mask resists Bio and Dark; at Level 5, it absorbs the former and nullifies the latter.

The Gas Mask can be bought at The Town's Equipment Shop for 3,000 gold.

The Gas Mask is found inside a chest in the bottom-right corner of the Waste Disposal Plant, on the same screen where the second Battery is found. The chest is to the left of the long pit, blocked by a battle that appears as a Gunslinger.
