- "An unwieldy spear made to fight defensive foes."
- ―Description, Epic Battle Fantasy 5
The Giant Slayer is a non-elemental sword available for Matt in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
Description[]
The Giant Slayer is a long, double-ended spear with a massive blade for a head and a smaller blade acting as the pommel. Both blades are bright silver and mounted on a secondary metal section made of darker grey metal. Two small pieces of dark grey metal adorn the brown handle of the spear.
Normal[]
The Giant Slayer grants the second-highest Attack bonus among swords (only being bested by the Soul Eater), but it has no other stat boosts, a large Accuracy penalty, and a modest Evade penalty. The latter isn't too big of a problem, since Matt's base Evade isn't very high, but it's generally a good idea to use the Giant Slayer along with Accuracy-buffing equipment (like the Spelunking Hat or the Target Badge) to help nullify its penalties and enable Matt to make full use of its high Attack. Although it lacks an elemental boost, it can ignore the defensive buffs of its targets with weapon-elemental skills and increases the chance of foes deciding to Surrender; it also has a Normal Attack counter, but lacks any on-hit debuffs or status effects.
The Giant Slayer can be seen as a more focused version of the Berzerker, with less bulk and more immediate Accuracy/Evade penalties in exchange for higher Attack and a more reliably damaging counter attack. Conversely, it can be considered a safer alternative to the Soul Eater, whose on-hit Curse, HP-draining counter, and sheer physical power may prove more useful once the player learns to compensate for its frailty.
The Giant Slayer resists Wind, Light, Heavy, Confuse and Stagger. All but the first become an immunity at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Giant Slayer offers high Attack (only outmatched by the Alt Berzerker among Alt swords), minor increases to HP, Accuracy, and Evade, and a boost for non-elemental skills. Its weapon-elemental skills have a good Stagger chance and can reliably unleash Sawblade; the latter benefits from its boost and has a very small Instant Death chance. It can also cast Bind between turns, though this is typically negligible.
The Alt Giant Slayer is loosely interchangeable with The Alt Chopper, both being powerful non-elemental swords that can unleash Sawblade and make enemies more vulnerable with weapon-elemental skills. Its main advantages over The Alt Chopper are slightly more Attack, Accuracy, and Evade, a more consistent Sawblade unleash, and much earlier availability (although amassing the Gold required to buy it may require some farming in the early game).
The Alt Giant Slayer resists Wind, Light, Heavy, Confuse and Stagger. It becomes immune to all but the first at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
The Giant Slayer can be bought in any Equipment Shop for 60,000 gold, e.g. in Hope Harbor, Greenwood Village or Redpine Town.
