The Gold Dragon is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. It is found in the upper sections of the Temple of Godcat, being the last member of the Dragons to be encountered.
Appearance[]
The Gold Dragon is based off of Czars, the Pyrohydra head from EBF3. Aside from being a bit smaller and having golden scales where Czars has red, it has an identical appearance to its predecessor; a large reptilian monster whose head and long neck are all that can be seen in battle. It has white eyes with black sclerae and a slit-like pupil, salmon-colored teeth, horns, and underbelly scales, and a short mane of off-white hair on its head and running down its neck. More tufts of hair dot its chin and the back of its head.
Overview[]
Befitting its very late location, the Gold Dragon is one of the most powerful non-boss enemies in Epic Battle Fantasy 4, with high base offenses to give its moves more punch. It has two decently damaging non-elemental physical attacks, but its magical prowess is the real cause of concern. It can blast one player with Judgement for severe Holy damage with very high Accuracy and a chance to Weaken them; alternatively, it can release a White Megaflare to hit the entire party at once. The latter attack is weaker and less accurate than Judgement (although it's still more accurate than normal), but its Weaken chance is much higher.
After taking some damage, the Gold Dragon will start using healing magic along with its offensive arsenal. It can heal itself for about 4% of its maximum HP while gaining three stacks of Regen and Bless; the latter blocks Dispel along with other harmful status effects, so the player will have to deal with the full duration of its regeneration. It also has a multi-target healing spell to support the entire foe wave; fortunately, it's not especially powerful and has no special effects.
The Gold Dragon is also somewhat notable for its buggy AI in early versions of EBF4; prior to the Battle Mountain update, it had a chance to spend its turn doing absolutely nothing once it fell below 65% HP. It also wasn't able to use its multi-target heal until the v2 update, due to a programming error.
Syphon cripples a Gold Dragon by locking it into its basic physical attacks, but it has a very high resistance to the status. Berserk will force it to spam Judgement, which can be exploited with immunity or strong resistance to Holy; Purify and Cleanse can be used to mitigate the issue of Weaken. If altering its attack pattern isn't an option, Poison can be used to counteract its healing spells; try to stack the status early, because the Bless applied by the Gold Dragon's self-heal will block subsequent attempts. Vines is an effective attack against it, since it deals heavy damage on top of applying Poison, but Dark skills such as Antimatter and Pulse will hit its biggest weakness in direct combat.
The Gold Dragon is weak to Bio and especially Dark, but it absorbs Holy and resists every other element. On the other hand, its only status immunity is to Doom and Instant Death, although it strongly resists Stun, Syphon, Freeze, and debuffs to its Magic Attack and Magic Defence. Incidentally, it also gives roughly twice as much EXP as other members of its family.
"More Foe Resistance" enables the Gold Dragon to absorb Thunder and Wind while giving it Weaken immunity and a good resistance to Stagger and Accuracy/Evade debuffs.

Battle Logic[]
The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.
- Syphoned → Bite (1/2), Headbutt (1/2);
- Berserked → Judgement;
- >65% HP → Bite (1/3), Headbutt (1/3), Judgement (1/3);
- ≤65% to >32% HP → Bite (1/6), Nothing (1/6), Judgement (1/6), White Megaflare (1/6), Elixir (1/6), Megaelixir (1/6);
- ≤32% HP → Nothing (1/5), Judgement (1/5), White Megaflare (1/5), Elixir (1/5), Megaelixir ( 1/5).
Prior to the Battle Mountain update, one of possible "dice" roll results was not assigned an attack to use, thus Gold Dragon simply skipped its turn whenever this specific value was rolled. The update changed it into extra usage chance for Judgement in later phases.
Prior to the v2 update, Megaelixir wasn't an option in the later phases.
Summon[]
The Gold Dragon summon can be found in the premium-exclusive Battle Mountain area, from a chest on the screen to the left of the Dark Players' cave. The chest is guarded by a battle that appears as a Green Jelly, and The Stepladder is required to get this far.
When summoned, the Gold Dragon uses its White Megaflare to blast the entire enemy wave with severe, accurate magical Holy damage and a great chance to inflict three stacks of Weaken. It then casts Megalixir to heal the entire active party; unless they were literally on the very brink of death, this spell should bring them back to full HP.
