The Gray Pixel is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is found in the Glitch Area of No Man's Land.

Appearance[]

Like the rest of the Pixels, this foe looks like a retro version of another foe in the game; in this case, it appears as a Metal Idol, complete with the same visual variants. It has very minimalistic animations reminiscent of early RPGs.

Overview[]

The Gray Pixel's base HP is easily the lowest of any foe in the game, but it compensates with absurdly high Defence and Magic Defence; its defenses are just under 250 times higher than the average foe, causing most of the party's attacks to deal single-digit damage when it is first encountered. It also has sizable offensive stats, making its attacks surprisingly strong if not dealt with appropriately.

Offensively, the Gray Pixel has 3 attacks: a weak but extremely accurate multi-target shockwave that's fully Thunder-elemental and has a chance to debuff their Magic Defence, a random-targeted physical Bomb attack that may inflict Stagger, and a partly Thunder-based magic attack that's slightly more accurate and has a fairly high chance to Confuse the victim for 2 turns on Hard or Epic difficulty. If the party has Magic Defence debuffs, the Gray Pixel will cease using its shockwave attack in favor of its Thunder Strike; this deals a lot of damage if the victim is debuffed, so maintaining Magic Defence and/or Morale support is handy to reduce damage.

Aside from its ridiculously high defenses, the Gray Pixel's resistances aren't too great; it's only resistant to Bio and immune to Stun, Doom and Instant Death. On the other hand, it's very weak to Fire and slightly less weak to Water; it is also very easy to Stagger. With the "More Foe Resistance" challenge enabled, it becomes neutral to Water, absorbs Bomb and Thunder, and gains significant resistance to all non-HP stat debuffs.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If Syphoned or Berserked → Bomb Barrage;
  • If a randomly selected player has at least a 10% Magic Defence debuff → Thunder Strike (2/3), Bomb Barrage (1/3);
  • Otherwise → Bomb Barrage (1/3), Thunder Strike (1/3), Shockwave (1/3).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 50% → Bomb Barrage.

Summon[]

The Gray Pixel can be captured and used as a summon; it can also be called between turns by the Power Paw. It uses a modified version of Bomb Barrage on a single foe, dealing three hits of very weak physical Bomb damage with a high chance to inflict five stacks of Weaken. While it's far from the only source of the status, its low damage and SP cost make it a cost-efficient option until the Peace Badge is acquired late in the game (especially against Holy-resistant foes that would benefit from Blessed Barrage or Holy Light.
