The Haunted Mirror is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is mostly found in the Mystic Woods and various endgame areas.

Appearance[]

The Haunted Mirror has a rectangular frame made of dark brown wood, decorated with dull brown ornaments on the corners. The lower corners each have one small bone, while the upper corners each have a small skull with a bone on either side. If its glassy interior is intact, a pair of black eyes can be seen in the center, surrounded by a pale grey aura.

Overview[]

Like the other Mirrors, this foe can "reflect" attacks; this simply means counterattacking to them, not nullifying/reducing their damage, though the counter has same elemental properties as the attack it's hit with. The counter's damage is based on how much HP the Mirror lost, multiplied by a set amount depending on the difficulty level. If dealt enough damage or provoked into using its Glass Shard Volley, a Mirror can be broken, causing it to lose its Reflection ability and most of its attacks; keep in mind that a player will suffer Bad Luck if they're the one to break it. The Haunted Mirror, in particular only reflects magical damage, so physical attacks can be used to bypass its reflection gimmick.

The Haunted Mirror mostly uses magical Dark attacks, and can inflict both Curse and Invisible to improve its damage output over time. All of its attacks are single-target aside from its Glass Shard Volley, so it's not too hard to manage, especially with Dark resistance to reduce the damage of its pure-elemental attacks.

Although a strong magical attack like Judgement can work fine if it breaks the Haunted Mirror, physical attacks remain the most efficient option; not only can they bypass the Reflection, they also hit the Mirror's weaker defensive stat. Matt, Anna and NoLegs all have physical Holy skills to safely exploit its biggest elemental weakness, but remember that the one to break it will suffer Bad Luck unless the Mirror breaks itself.

The Haunted Mirror is weak to Fire, Wind, and especially Holy, but it's resistant to Earth and absorbs Dark. It has no resistance to debuffs or status effects, and is particularly vulnerable to Burn, Scorch, Light, and Heavy. If "More Foe Resistance" is on, it loses its Fire and Wind weaknesses, gains a Bio absorption, and becomes immune to Stun, Doom, and Instant Death.

The mirror breaks when hurt for >50% HP in one hit and left with <24% HP, or by any attack that leaves it with <14% HP or kills it. This gives the attacker 2x (3x on Hard/Epic) Bad Luck (ignoring resistances, Bless, and Evade), unless broken by a weather attack or foe's own Glass Shard Volley skill.

Reflection Random Varies Magical ---- -- -- -- 99999% 0% 10%
Notes: Only triggers against magical attacks. Power is equal to % of Max HP lost by the attack modified by a multiplier based on difficulty (0.2x on Zero, 0.4x on Easy, 0.7x on Normal, 1x on Hard/Endless and 1.5x on Epic); will not trigger against attacks that heal the mirror. Element is the same as the attack's, with 100% element degree (even if the attack itself was only partially elemental). Will not trigger if the attack breaks the mirror. Damage is doubled if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

  • If catch score >55, all players are Lovable, and the mirror is broken → Surrender;
  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Nothing;
  • If Syphoned or Broken → Bash;
  • If Berserked → Glass Shard Volley;
  • <39% HP → Glass Shard Volley (4/8), Bash (1/8), Shadow Claw (1/8), Shadow Bite(1/8), Invisibility (1/8);
  • Otherwise → Bash (1/4), Shadow Claw (1/4), Shadow Bite(1/4), Invisibility (1/4).

* Invisibility becomes Shadow Claw if the selected target is Invisible.

Summon[]

The Haunted Mirror can be captured and used as a summon; it can also be randomly summoned by the Spider Gown. It uses a powered-up version of its Shadow Bite on a single foe, dealing physical Dark damage with a high chance to inflict three stacks of Curse.
