"How do ya like my hair? Is this style still in fashion?"
―Matt, Epic Battle Fantasy 5
Karate Gi and Headband

Matt & Lance with the Headband in EBF4.

The Headband is a male hat found in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5. Its armor counterpart is the Karate Gi in EBF4 and the Turtle Gi in EBF5.

Description[]

The Headband is a strip of red cloth that is tied at the back of its wearer's head; it also appears to greatly increase the amount of hair on their scalp.

In EBF4, the Headband has a small white skull on the front and the phrase "L33t" on the side. It made Matt's hair stick straight up, while Lance's hair becomes swept forward to slightly resembling a wave of water.

In EBF5, the Headband has a brighter color scheme and its previous text and picture has been replaced by "1337" in a thicker font. It gains a bright orange hairpiece when worn by NoLegs...or possibly causes him to spontaneously grow a large amount of bright orange hair. In any case, all three of its wearers have a swept-forward "wave" hairstyle when it is worn.

The Headband's defenses range from low to nonexistent; however, it boosts Evade and Accuracy and has a chance to give its wearer a beneficial status effect between turns (usually Brave).

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Headband is an incredibly powerful and versatile piece of gear. It has no defensive boosts aside from resistances to three different elements (two of which are frequently used by the final boss), but it provides impressive Accuracy and Evade along with some of the highest offensive stats of all male headgear, beaten only by the Demon Skull (and the Death Mask for Attack in Premium versions). Additionally, it can randomly apply Brave, improving the odds of its wearer landing a critical hit.

In general, the Headband is a strong offensive hat that will likely be a staple of the party's arsenal from the moment it is obtained all the way to the endgame. For defensive purposes, it pairs well with the Karate Gi, which gives further Evade and a good HP boost to help its wearer survive attacks that manage to hit him.

The Headband resists Fire, Holy and Wind. None of them become an immunity at max level.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Normal[]

The Headband has weak defenses, but excellent Evade and great Accuracy; it also grants a strong Magic Defence buff whenever the wearer Defends himself. It has a high chance of granting Brave between turns, to the point where it effectively guarantees the status when fully upgraded.

Despite its decent selection of effects, the Headband is generally outclassed by the Basket Hat for Evade-related defenses and the Space Helmet for bulk; to add insult to injury, it's also available much later than either of the competition. Its ability to apply Brave is useful, but it may be better to either cast Temper or summon an appropriate foe for the same end result. Its Defend-activated buff is theoretically helpful for magic-focused foes (particularly if they also use a lot of Magic Defence debuffs), but it's still very vulnerable to physical attack.

The Headband resists Fire, Holy and Bomb. It does not become immune to any of them at Level 5.

Equip Remix[]

The Alt Headband has the worst non-zero boosts to Defence and Magic Defence of any male hat (tied with the Alt Basket Hat and the Alt Officer's Hat), in addition to modest HP, great Evade, and a good amount of Accuracy. Its main asset is its ability to apply Regen whenever the wearer Defends himself, which can greatly increase his longevity if paired with bulky armor, reliable Morale support, and/or the Alt Pixel Glasses. Additionally, it can summon a Cat Bomber for some magical Bomb damage and Stagger support, but this is relatively insignificant despite its good trigger chance.

The Alt Headband resists Fire, Holy and Bomb, becoming immune to none of them at max level.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Headband is found in the middle chest of the Ashwood Forest block puzzle.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

"I don't wanna wear this. This make me look like a douchenozzle."
―Lance, complaining about the Headband, EBF5

The Headband is found inside a chest in a secret area of the Rainbow River after defeating PUMPKUS. Prior to the v2 update, it was found in a chest at the end of the Mineshaft Maze, accessible after defeating the Neon Valhalla.

Trivia[]

  • The number 1337 on the EBF5 Headband is the same number of foe kills required to earn the EXP Pipeline Medal; both are referencing 1337, or "Leet", a term from the old chatboards, FPS chat, and memes of the internet.
  • While likely coincidental, the Headband's red coloration may be a reference to the headband worn by Ryu, the main protagonist of the Street Fighter series of fighting games. The resemblance is stronger when the Headband is equipped along with the Karate Gi in EBF4.
