The Hermit Creep is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is usually found along the Rainbow River, although it is first encountered on the piers of Hope Harbor.

Appearance[]

The Hermit Creep has the standard body of its species, with dull pink skin, six flipper-like limbs, and a pair of rounded mandibles flanked by two pairs of yellow-green eyes. It is largely encased in a large, oblong-spiral shell resembling that of a sea snail. The shell is light pink with dark pink stripes, with a shiny, polished appearance. A single leaf of dark green seaweed trails from the back of the shell, behind the Hermit Creep's legs.

Overview[]

The Hermit Creep is a Water-based foe with the skills to match; aside from its non-elemental Flip attack, all of its attacks are either partially or fully Water-elemental. It mainly uses physical moves, but it can also cast Whirlpool to deal a fair bit of magical Water damage and slightly debuff the target's Evade. This skill, along with its multi-target Geyser, can also Wet their targets; while this does nothing for the Hermit Creep itself, other foes may be able to better exploit the status.

If it feels particularly threatened, the Hermit Creep can give itself Defend by briefly retreating into its shell. On higher difficulty settings, this move also buffs its Defence and Magic Defence by a fair amount, making it even more durable. These buffs can be turned against it with Giga Drill (which also hits the Hermit Creep's serious Earth weakness), eliminated with Dispel, counteracted with Curse, or bypassed entirely with Burn, Scorch, Poison, or Virus (preferably the latter two). In any case, its below-average Evade makes hitting it relatively simple.

The Hermit Creep absorbs Water and resists Fire, Wind, Stun, Doom, and Instant Death while being weak to Bio, Holy, Thunder, and especially Earth. Turning on "More Foe Resistance" makes it immune to Wind and neutral to Earth and Holy damage.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If Syphoned, catch score >55, and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Geyser (1/2), Defend (1/2);
  • If Syphoned or Berserked → Shell Burst (1/2), Flip (1/2);
  • If it used Defend last turn → Shell Burst (1/4), Flip (1/4), Geyser (1/4), Whirlpool (1/4);
  • <24% HP → Defend;
  • Otherwise → Shell Burst (1/5), Flip (1/5), Geyser (1/5), Whirlpool (1/5), Defend (1/5).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 25% and not Syphoned → Geyser (1/2), Whirlpool (1/2).

Summon[]

The Hermit Creep can be captured and used as a summon. It uses a powered-up version of its Flip attack to inflict non-elemental physical damage on a single foe.
