The Honjo Masamune is a Kodachi-style shortsword with a black-and-gold hilt. It has a bright silver blade with a white cutting edge. Unlike the shields of most Cat Toys, its offhand item is the sword's dark red sheath, which has ornate golden details and a black rope or ribbon tied around its middle.
The Honjo Masamune is one of the most potent "glass cannon" weapons in EBF5. It grants the highest offensive stats of any Cat Toy, as well as decent boosts to both Accuracy and Evade. It can occasionally unleash Tempest as a bonus skill, and will counter with a Normal Attack; this counter may also trigger Tempest. All of this comes at the cost of reducing NoLegs's HP by 50%; however, since NoLegs is already very fragile, this is a relatively insignificant side effect. In general, the Honjo Masamune is an immensely powerful weapon which has unparalleled offenses for modest downsides, letting NoLegs tear through foes while making him incredibly vulnerable to anything that manages to hit him.
The Honjo Masamune competes with the Star Hammer as one of NoLegs's best weapons for nonspecific offensive output. While the Star Hammer seems to be more well-rounded, its defensive boosts are somewhat wasted on the naturally frail NoLegs and the Honjo Masamune has even more offensive power. Additionally, the Honjo Masamune is available relatively early in the game, while the Star Hammer can only be acquired near the end.
The Alt Honjo Masamune is a non-elemental weapon with decent offenses and solid Accuracy, but its main selling point is its obscene Evade - a mind-boggling 200% boost when fully upgraded. Since NoLegs already has high natural Evade, he's practically impossible to hit when he wields this Cat Toy; and just as well, because a 70% HP penalty leaves him remarkably prone to being wiped out from a single blow.
The Alt Honjo Masamune is best used on Target-based tank builds, allowing NoLegs to draw enemy fire away from his teammates while minimizing risk to himself by dodging everything that comes his way. It pairs nicely with the Genji Helmet, Pixel Glasses, Target Badge and perhaps the Fairy or the Green Cross if the player does not want to maintain Auto-Revive and Regen themselves.
The Honjo Masamune also has a chance to give NoLegs Good Luck while improving the effectiveness of buff skills and non-elemental attacks; while these are useful additions, they pale in comparison to the Evade boost.
