- "Did we get a horse update?!"
- ―Matt / Lance, Epic Battle Fantasy 4
The Horse Fort, also known as Trojan Horse, is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and, since the Battle Mountain update, a miniboss in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. It appears mostly in nature/forest-themed areas, such as Vegetable Forest and Lankyroot Jungle.
Appearance[]
The Horse Fort is a large cart made of brown wood, with a crude horse head mounted upon its front. It has two round metal shields attached to its sides, engines in the back, and a large, sharpened log that it uses like a battering ram. A randomly-generated Cat Soldier sits on the back of the cart, acting as its pilot.
In EBF4, the Horse Fort has gained a small pink tongue and two tufts of light brown fur representing a mane and tail.
Overview[]
Horse Forts are high-tier foes which have far more power than a mere Cat Soldier. They use mostly non-elemental attacks, but their pilot can also blow a horn to buff its allies. They are frequently accompanied by their lone brethren and other weak enemies, but they have several weaknesses, most commonly to Fire and Earth.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]
The Trojan Horse has two non-elemental physical attacks; one is stronger and has a better critical hit rate, but the other is more accurate and hits all three players at once. Contrary to what its bestiary description states, it has no Bomb attacks; however, it does have the ability to buff the Attack of itself and its allies; coupled with high HP relative to most foes in its area, it can be quite an effective support unit for physically-inclined enemy waves. Its Evade is lower than the average foe, so hitting it shouldn't be too difficult; magical attacks are recommended to avoid its higher Defence.
The Trojan Horse resists Wind and Thunder, but is weak to Bomb, Earth, and Fire (the first less so than the others). It resists the Poison status (though not the element) as well as Stun, and is highly vulnerable to Syphon; the latter status can restrict it to its single-target attack, making it much more predictable.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]
Unlike the garden-variety Cat Soldier, a Horse Fort is a serious threat. It has a strong non-elemental physical attack that hits one player, but it has two other attacks that can hit the entire front line; its physical attack deals non-elemental damage with a good chance of Burn, while its magical attack inflicts Bomb damage and has a small Stagger chance. More threatening still is the Horse Fort's ability to summon reinforcements while simultaneously buffing their physical stats and making them Brave, making them significantly stronger.
Fortunately, both Syphon and Berserk can prevent the Horse Fort from summoning and buffing foes, also locking it out of its Bomb attack. Depending on which status is inflicted, it may spam its Chained Log or Ram attacks; Syphon forces the former and Berserk forces the latter, so plan accordingly. A high HP stat makes it fairly durable; on the other hand, its below-average Evade means that most attacks will hit it consistently.
Any elements are effective against the Horse Fort, but it's especially weak to Poison, Earth, and Fire. In terms of status conditions, it is immune to Stun and Freeze while being resistant to Syphon, but it is also very vulnerable to Burn and the Poison status. As such, the Horse Fort is easily worn down through attrition; using Fire Spin or Poison Gas will inflict status effects that can take it out in a few turns. Powerful skills like Bullet Hell, Vines or Cataclysm can further accelerate its demise.
