The Ice Elemental is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and 4. It appears mostly around cold areas, such as Glacier Valley and Crystal Caverns.
Appearance[]
Like other Elementals, the Ice Elemental is a vaguely reptilian creature that levitates above the ground; instead of legs, it has a vaguely triangular protrusion resembling a heater shield with jagged edges. True to its name, most of its body appears to be made of crystalline blue ice, with some white accents on its limbs and solid blue armor on its torso. It has narrow white eyes, a toothless, beak-like upper jaw, a solid blue lower jaw with small white teeth, and a long horn with a backwards-angling tip. It has a rectangular pauldron over its left shoulder, dominated by a huge, curved spike of ice. Its left arm ends in a icy blade with two smaller spikes protruding from its base, and its right arm ends in a crude, three-fingered claw.
Overview[]
The Ice Elemental is a high-tier foe that can decimate players if they are under-prepared. As you might expect, it uses Ice attacks, some of which may Freeze their targets. Most of its attacks are physical and quite powerful; its magic attacks are mainly used for better Freeze chances.
In both appearances so far, the Ice Elemental is weak to Fire, but absorbs Ice and Water.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]
The Ice Elemental puts its blade-tipped arm to good use in battle, stabbing a single player either once or repeatedly for physical part-Ice damage with slightly above-average Accuracy. It can also charge its blade with icy energy and slash a single target; this is a little stronger than its single Stab, with better Accuracy, crit chance, and a high risk of Freeze; alternatively, it can drop an Ice Spike on a player, which is mostly notable for its decent chance to inflict Instant Death, although it also has slightly below-average Accuracy and a good critical hit chance. Its sole multi-target option is Snow, which hits the entire party for mild magical Ice damage and a small chance of Freeze.
On Epic difficulty, the Ice Elemental's Multi-Stab attack hits ten times instead of four, drastically amplifying its damage output.
Maintaining Regen is highly advisable against an Ice Elemental; the passive healing will cure any Freeze it manages to inflict and keep the party healthy against its physical damage output. Ice and Freeze resistance will obviously go a long way to reduce its threat level (especially against the pure elemental Snow), but Syphoning or Berserking it (preferably the former) will limit it to only using its stabbing attacks. Offensively, the party has no shortage of means to kill it; Cataclysm, Airstrike, Fireball, Eruption, and Bullet Hell will all cut through its HP in record time.
The Ice Elemental's main weakness is Fire, but Earth and Bomb will also be more effective than normal (albeit not to the same degree). On the other hand, it absorbs Ice and Water while being immune to Wind and the Poison status.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]
The Ice Elemental is a fairly powerful opponent who specializes in single-target Ice damage. Its basic attacks involve stabbing a player (once or four times) for slightly Ice-based physical damage, or it can use an energized slash for higher pure Ice damage (non-elemental prior to the v2 update). Its sole magic attack is Deep Freeze, which hits slightly harder than Quad Stab and is all but guaranteed to Freeze a non-resistant player for two turns. At less than half HP, it replaces this spell with Ice Spike, which is physical, weaker, and less accurate, but also carries a decent chance to inflict Instant Death,
On Hard or Epic difficulty levels, the Ice Elemental enters battle with nine stacks of Wet, dampening its biggest elemental weakness and amplifying the amount it can heal from Ice attacks. The best way to get rid of the status is to hit it with Thunder skills, which it is neutral to.
Ice resistance will greatly weaken most of the Ice Elemental's attacks, but Stab and Quad Stab have a very low elemental degree, so strong Defence may be preferable. Depending on the party's status resistances, it may be optimal to burst it down to 50% HP and prevent it from using Deep Freeze, chip it down slowly before wiping out the last half of its health to avoid Ice Spike, or hitting it with Syphon or Berserk to lock it into its blade attacks.
The Ice Elemental naturally absorbs Ice, and Water to a lesser degree; additionally, it's immune to Freeze and resistant to Stun, Syphon, Doom, and Instant Death. It's weak to Dark and especially Fire, so the party has several options to hit it hard. "More Foe Resistance" increases its Water absorption and makes it resistant to Holy and offensive debuffs; however, it also removes its Ice absorption.
