The Ice Golem is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. As its name suggests, it's an Ice-based enemy and is found in cold areas. It is also a fairly rare enemy that only appears in three battles outside of Battle Mountain: near the Crystal Caverns' ice block puzzle, in the Waste Disposal Plant's cooling room, and in the Temple of Godcat's ice cave. Of these three encounters, only the first one respawns.

Appearance[]

The Ice Golem is made out of large chunks of grey rock with huge shards of ice coming out of its shoulders. The opening in the middle of the body acts as its "mouth", and its arms are long blades made of ice. Small chunks of ice stick out of its feet, resembling toes.

Overview[]

The Ice Golem is a strong foe with many resistances and a large health pool, making it tricky to wear down. It only uses physical Ice attacks, but it is remarkably diverse in its manner of doing so. It has no less than six attacks to choose from with varying levels of elemental degree; some of them are only 30% elemental, so Ice resistance will be less effective at reducing their damage. Between its area-of-effect attacks (one of which packs an impressive 50% Freeze chance) and three attacks with over 70 base power (one of which hits twice and has a small Stagger chance) coming off of an above-average Attack stat, the Ice Golem is a force to be reckoned with both offensively and defensively.

Fortunately however, the Ice Golem has no resistance to stat debuffs or the ailments that reduce them. Inflicting Curse, Tired, and/or Weaken along with some immediate stat drops can greatly lower its damage output and durability. With below-average base Evade, it's also pretty easy to hit it with strong Fire or Bomb attacks.

Inflicting Berserk or Syphon on an Ice Golem will result in it choosing between its two area-of-effect attacks and its most potent single-target attack. While it can be a viable tactic if you have extremely strong Defence and Ice resistance on the active party members (as the Ice Golem's multi-target attacks are both 100% elemental), the low elemental degree and sheer damage output of 6x Stab can make this a risky option.

Interestingly, the Ninja Gear can be found a few screens before the first Ice Golem encounter, and its ability to boost the power of attack items makes the Hand Bomb the best option against it at the time.

The Ice Golem is weak to Fire and Bomb, takes neutral damage from Dark and Holy, absorbs Ice, and is immune to all other elements. It is also immune to Burn, Freeze, and Poison while being highly resistant to Stun, Doom, and Instant Death. "More Foe Resistance" gives it Wind and Water absorption, immunity to Holy and Attack debuffs, and resistance to Curse, Tired, and Weaken.
