The Ice Shards are a female headgear available in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, 4 and 5. They do not have an armor counterpart.

Description[]

The Ice Shards are fairly self-explanatory; hairclips made from three blue ice crystals fused at the base. Their EBF5 version also has small grey clips at the base of the crystals, explaining how they stay in their wearer's hair. They also cause the wearer to wear part of her hair in braids.

In all of their appearances, the Ice Shards grant a moderate boost for both Defence and Magic Defence, as well as somewhat raising Evade. They also resist Ice damage, although they're never immune.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

The Ice Shards have decent Defence, good Magic Defence, and a little extra Evade to make Natalie more durable and better able to dodge enemy attacks. The latter stat is their main advantage over the Red Ribbon and the Thunder Bauble, although their additional stat boosts (HP and MP, respectively) may prove more useful for Natalie.

The Ice Shards also boost the power of the Ice Spike attack summoned by using an Ice Crystal. Since thrown items are not dependent on the user's stats in EBF3, this gives Natalie a source of strong physical Ice damage; however, Iceshard will usually do just fine unless the target has immense magic resistance. On the other hand, the Death Bringer's Unleash is a more reliable source of Instant Death than Ice Spike.

The Ice Shards resist Ice, up to 50% at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Ice Shards give Natalie or Anna a moderate increase to Defence and Magic Defence, as well as a bit of Evade. This makes them a fairly balanced defensive hat, but they don't offer anything beyond that besides resistances.

While the Ice Shards' ability to resist two elements at once is somewhat rare among female hats, the Fur Hat of Battle Mountain is a direct upgrade in almost every way; while it lacks Evade, it offers stronger defenses, slight offensive boosts, a third elemental resistance, and a fairly strong auto-skill. On the other hand, the Ice Shards usually outperform the Santa Hat due to identical defenses, a little Evade, and a second elemental resistance.

The Ice Shards resist Ice and Wind, neither of which becomes an immunity at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Normal[]

The Ice Shards are a straightforward defensive hat with above-average defenses and a nice Evade boost; additionally, they can randomly summon an Icicle Creep between turns, which deals physical Ice-elemental damage with a chance to inflict Chill. They lack many offensive or support functions, but they provide what's arguably the best combination of bulk and Evade among Anna and Natalie's headgear options; other hats sacrifice one or the other. This makes them particularly useful for Anna's tanking purposes, although other hats provide better Equipment Effects in exchange for less raw defensive potential.

The Ice Shards resist Ice, Fire, Chill and Freeze, becoming immune to the latter two at Level 5.

Equip Remix[]

The Alt Ice Shards work well for beating the heat...perhaps a little too well, since they have a high chance to Chill the wearer between turns. On the other hand, they have decent Defence and Magic Defence, along with small boosts to Attack, Magic Attack, and Evade. Their resistances also mitigate some of the downsides to being Chilled, but Natalie and Anna will still need to watch out for Water attacks; on the other hand, they can turn auto-Chill to their advantage when facing Bio attacks or as part of a Virus strategy.

Although the Alt Ice Shards have very balanced stats, they struggle to stand out next to more specialized hats with better effects. For example, the Alt Curly Horns have better defenses and useful buff/debuff boosts, while the Alt Spider Bobble has better offenses and capturing utility.

The Alt Ice Shards have resistances to Ice, Wind, Chill and Freeze, becoming immune to all of them at Level 5. However, the wearer will still be susceptible to the hat's automatic Chill effect.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

The Ice Shards are found in Glacier Valley, in a chest on the right side of the third screen. The chest is blocked by a battle that appears as a Glacier Eater.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

The Ice Shards are found inside a chest in the Frozen Valley, on the screen south of the Rainbow Gate. There is slippery ice around the chest, so it is only possible to reach it by entering from the right side of the screen until the Spiked Boots are found.
