Not to be confused with the black Rock Turtle, known as Rock Eater in Epic Battle Fantasy 3.

The Lava Turtle, known as Lava Eater in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and Rock Eater in Epic Battle Fantasy 2, is a recurring foe in the Epic Battle Fantasy series. It appears primarily in hot areas, such as near the volcano of Glacier Valley (in EBF3), the burnt parts of Ashwood Forest, and the Lava Cave of the Crystal Caverns and Lankyroot Jungle (in Epic Battle Fantasy 4); in Epic Battle Fantasy 5, it appears in the Data Bunker as one of the Classic foes.

Appearance[]

The Lava Turtle is a giant tortoise with red-orange scales, narrow black eyes, three short reddish claws on each foot, and a pair of forward-leaning brown horns on its head. Its shell seems to be made of rugged brown rock spikes; many of these spikes have small craters with a fiery orange glow, making them resemble tiny volcanoes.

Overview[]

The Lava Turtle has all the hallmarks of its species; good bulk, low Evade, and a mostly physical move set that lets it deal decent damage or buff itself. Its most unique trait is its ability to inflict Fire damage, usually via a barrage of magical fireballs that hit multiple players and inflict various debuffs. It is always weak to Earth and Water and is frequently vulnerable to Ice; conversely, Wind, Thunder, and especially Fire tend to be very ineffective against it.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2[]

Aside from its single-target Horn Stab, all of the Rock Eater's attacks hit both players at once. Its Ground Pound isn't especially noteworthy aside from its above-average Accuracy, but its Shell Smash gives it a good buff to all of its offensive and defensive stats in exchange for being its weakest attack. Its sole magic attack deals four hits of slightly inaccurate Fire damage to both players, with the final hit having a small chance to debuff their Magic Defence.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2[]

  • Sealed → Horn Stab (1/3), Ground Pound (1/3), Shell Smash (1/3);
  • Otherwise → Horn Stab (1/4), Ground Pound (1/4), Shell Smash (1/4), Fireballs (1/4).

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

  • Berserked → Horn Stab;
  • Syphoned → Horn Stab (1/2), Ground Pound (1/2);
  • ≥28.5% HP → Horn Stab (1/4), Ground Pound (1/4), Fireballs* (2/4);
  • <28.5% HP → Fireballs.

The Shell Smash attack, although it exists, is never used; what could activate it triggers Fireballs instead, giving said attack extra usage chance.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

  • Syphoned → Horn Stab (1/3), Ground Pound (1/3), Shell Smash (1/3).
  • Berserked → Ground Pound;
  • Otherwise → Horn Stab (1/4), Ground Pound (1/4), Shell Smash (1/4), Fireballs (1/4).

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Action

  • If Berserked → Horn Stab;
  • If Syphoned → Horn Stab (1/3), Ground Pound (1/3), Shell Smash (1/3);
  • Otherwise → Horn Stab (17/80), Ground Pound (17/80), Shell Smash (17/80), Fireballs (29/80).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 20% and not Syphoned → Fireballs.

Additionally, like all the Classic foes, the Rock Eater ignores the Lovable status on players.

Summon[]

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

The Rock Eater can be captured and used as a summon; additionally, the Alt Crimson Dragon has a chance to call it between turns. It uses its Fireballs on all foes, dealing light magical Fire damage with a high chance to inflict three stacks of Dry.
