The Neon Lightbulb is a Thunder-elemental cat toy available for NoLegs in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
Description[]
The Neon Lightbulb set is composed of two light bulbs with a bright yellow glow. Its offhand item is a compact fluorescent bulb held as a shield; its weapon is a fluorescent tube with two prongs on the tip and bolts of electricity visible within its bulb.
Normal[]
The Neon Lightbulb has slightly below-average Attack and Magic Attack, but it's more notable for the highest Evade bonus of any Cat Toy, synergizing well with NoLegs's best defensive stat. It also powers up Thunder skills and has a great chance of inflicting Stun with Weapon-elemental attacks (including its Normal Attack counter); the latter allows NoLegs to single-handedly stun-lock entire waves of foes with Swift Slash, especially with equipment that boosts status infliction. Its Plasma Cage unleash can add even more stacks of Stun while benefiting from the elemental boost, although it's unreliable and only triggers from single-target skills.
The Neon Lightbulb is objectively the best cat toy for NoLegs's Target Tank build; its unparalleled Evade helps him prolong Target while safely drawing enemy fire away from his allies. However, the Pixel Popper and the Human Skull provide stiff competition outside of Stunning foes; their Evade isn't as high, but the former is stronger and the latter provides more versatile support.
As a weapon for disabling foes, the Neon Lightbulb tends to be overshadowed by the Book of Spells, which has an even higher Freeze chance that lends itself to damage combos and can be boosted further by Chill or Wet application. However, the Neon Lightbulb has more synergy with NoLegs's stats, and its on-hit Stun leaves foes helpless even if the party attacks them. Its counter attack theoretically gives it more Stunning potential, but clashes with its high Evade and lack of bulk.
The Neon Lightbulb has an Earth weakness that remains at -30% no matter how much it is forged. It also resists Thunder and Dark, with neither becoming an immunity at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Neon Lightbulb spurns its normal counterpart's legacy of stunning and dodging, instead being a simple heavy-damage Thunder weapon capable of Dispelling. It has a high boost to both Attack and Magic Attack, but no other stats. It counters attacks with a Normal Attack; like the rest of its single-target weapon-elemental skills, this can unleash Big Spark for extra damage that benefits from its elemental boost. Its weapon-elemental skills can also Dispel their targets, but the player has many other options to inflict the status.
Overall, the Alt Neon Lightbulb has impressive power but few secondary effects, relegating its niche to when NoLegs can make use of its elemental damage or resistances. It does have the best balance of Attack and Magic Attack of any cat toy aside from the Alt Star Hammer, but NoLegs's inclination for physical damage means that the likes of the Alt Viking Buckler, the Alt Devil's Sunrise, and the Alt Buster Sword will generally outperform it in a day-to-day offensive build; on the other hand, the Alt Neon Lightbulb is available much sooner than its competition unless the player has been heavily farming for gold.
The Alt Neon Lightbulb is weak to Water, staying at -30% at all forging levels. It resists Thunder and Dark, with neither becoming an immunity at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
The Neon Lightbulb is found inside a chest in the Iron Fortress, one screen west of the monolith room. The chest is near the bottom-left corner of the screen, blocked by a wooden box (that needs to be pushed out of the way) and a battle that appears as a Wise Mirror.
