The Nimbus Rod (also known as just Nimbus) is a Water-elemental staff available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 3 and 5.
Description[]
The Nimbus Rod is a blue staff which appears to be "weaved" from two intertwining strips of metal; the "weave" tightens near the middle of the staff to form a grip. The head features a large orb made of what appears to be blue glass or crystal, and the pommel is a nondescript blue point.
In EBF3, the Nimbus has a visible weave even along its grip, and its head consists of two orbs stacked on top of each other. A pair of white feathers adorn the base of each orb.
In EBF5, the Nimbus Rod's "weave" is completely fused together at the grip. Its head consists of a single large orb sitting atop a mass of white foam (similar to the Rubber Duck), with some trails clinging to the orb and dripping off the head.
In both of its appearances so far, the Nimbus Rod has given Natalie access to various Water-based skills, as well as good Magic Attack, a bit of HP, and a resistance to both Water and Fire.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]
The Nimbus provides a substantial boost to Natalie's Magic Attack and a modest HP complement, along with a significant Evade buff when Natalie uses its Unleash. It empowers the Bubbles summoned by the Bubble Stone item, giving Natalie a decent source of Water damage with a chance to debuff the victim's Evade. If she's not in the mood to spam items, she can cast Flood by hitting a foe with her Normal Attack.
While its ability to provide Water damage is its most obvious niche, the Nimbus has enough Magic Attack to act as a capable generalist staff. Compared to its main competition (the Crystal Staff and the Obsidian), it has slightly better durability and the strongest resistances to Fire and Ice.
The Nimbus resists Fire, Ice, and Water, up to 50% at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
Normal[]
The Nimbus Rod offers good Magic Attack, moderate HP, and a mostly incidental Attack bonus. It powers up Natalie's Water skills, but she'll need shared skills to exploit this outside of the staff's innate Bubble Ring unleash. Aside from the Syphon inflicted by its unleash, it can Chill enemies with Weapon-elemental attacks, which can be used to empower the party's Water and Ice attacks. Additionally, it summons Rain between turns, which can inflict Wet on both foes and allies; this can be combined with the staff's on-hit Chill to Freeze enemies or used to reduce Fire and Bomb damage taken by the party. However, against enemies that use Ice, Thunder, or Chilling/Freezing attacks, Rain may become more of a liability than a boon.
The Nimbus Rod resists Fire, Holy, and Water, although none of them become an immunity at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Nimbus Rod has above-average Magic Attack, decent HP, and a small Attack boost that Natalie has little use for. It empowers Holy and Water skills while enabling Natalie to greatly buff her Magic Attack by Defending herself, allowing her to inflict severe damage with skills like Judgement and Bubble Blast. It can also summon a Sea Dragon between turns to cripple enemy Attack and bombard them with powerful Water magic, but this is a very rare occurrence.
Like its normal counterpart, the Alt Nimbus Rod can Chill foes with Weapon-elemental attacks; its infliction chances are slightly lower per forging level, but the status lasts much longer, even at Level 1. While Natalie can exploit this with her powered-up Water spells and the staff's auto-summon, it may be better to let other party members apply Wet in order to easily Freeze foes that Natalie "marks" with Chill.
The Alt Nimbus Rod resists Fire, Holy, and Water, none of which become an immunity at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]
The Nimbus is found in a chest in the restricted area of Rock Lake, which becomes accessible after getting 20 Medals.
