The Oak Staff is an Earth-elemental staff available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5. It is exclusive to the Steam release of the game and the post-Battle Mountain update version of the Premium Pack.
Description[]
The Oak Staff is made from brown oak wood, with the bark carved away in places to give it light brown details. The head resembles a Wooden Idol with glowing green eyes and a vague open-mouthed smile; it also has two small twigs resembling arms and five green leaves (two near the base and three at the top). The topmost leaves are spread apart and slightly notched in EBF4; the EBF5 version of the staff puts them closer together and removes the notches.
The Oak Staff generally grants enormous defensive boosts at the cost of Natalie's offensive stats, all but forcing her into a supporting role.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]
The Oak Staff''s gargantuan boosts to HP, MP, Defence and Magic Defence give Natalie bulk that eclipses even the Flower Pot, but this comes at the cost of 40% decreases to both Attack and Magic Attack. As such, Natalie will be significantly more durable, but she'll have to deal damage through status effects or focus primarily on buffs/debuffs. Even healing is weakened by the decrease in Magic Attack; while the Nurse Hat compensates for this, the Oak Staff will still be inferior to all other staves when it comes to healing.
The Oak Staff may give Natalie two turns of Bless between turns. It boosts Earth skills and can cast Lumber with single-target weapon-elemental attacks; unfortunately, Lumber doesn't have much in way of special effects and will deal no noticeable damage. If the player wants a less extreme defensive staff, they may wish to consider the Flower Pot.
The Oak Staff resists Earth, Wind and Poison, but none of them will become an immunity at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
Normal[]
The Oak Staff has unparalleled bulk, with massive boosts to HP, Defence and Magic Defence; unfortunately, this comes at the price of halved offensive power. While it does boost healing spells, this just negates the Magic Attack penalty. The staff can occasionally summon a Stumpy Gloop for complimentary party-wide Morale. It also angers or intimidates plant and tree-like enemies.
While the Oak Staff's tanking ability is second to none, it lacks useful support effects. While it makes Gloops and Bushes Surrender or Flee, the much more powerful Chompers will go Berserk instead, which is often more harmful than helpful. However, its impeccable defences means it can be used in a tanking build.
If the player wants a less extreme defensive staff, they may wish to consider the Slime Staff, which sacrifices a bit of bulk for actually existent Magic Attack.
The Oak Staff is resistant to Earth, Wind and Bio. None of these become an immunity at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Oak Staff is the epitome of magical walls and the god of eternal buffs. With moderate HP, great Evade, and an unbelievable boost to Natalie's already impressive Magic Defence (which it can buff even further if she Defends herself), it renders her nigh-invulnerable to offensive spells while still holding its own against physical attacks. Although it has nonexistent offensive potential (due to halving both Attack and Magic Attack), it can support the party with its buff boost and ability to apply Heavy with weapon-elemental skills; the latter pairs well with Earth-focused attackers like Lance's Alt Desert Scorpion or Matt's Alt Emerald Smasher.
The Alt Oak Staff faces stiff competition from its physical/debuffing counterpart, the Alt Wrecking Rod. While it provides supreme magical protection and a good Evade bonus, Natalie already has high Magic Defence, and dangerous physical attacks are noticeably more common than magic attacks in EBF5. In terms of support, Natalie has more options for debuffs than buffs, but she also has what is probably the single best buffing skill in the game in 7th Heaven. Ultimately, the Alt Oak Staff is outclassed by the Alt Wrecking Rod for day-to-day use, but both staves are very effective at support and should be substituted for each other against the appropriate foes. The Alt Alchemy Set, the Alt Kaladanda, and the Alt Soul Crusher are less extreme defensive alternatives.
The Alt Oak Staff provides three elemental resistances: Earth, Water and Bio, none of which become an immunity at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]
The Oak Staff is found on Battle Mountain, in one of the two chests accessible after beating the Armored Oak one screen to the left from the entrance. The Axe is required to get there.

Trivia[]
- As with many other weapons found on Battle Mountain, the Oak Staff metaphorically represents one of the bosses in the main game; in this case, the Mighty Oak.
- Of said "boss weapons", the Oak Staff is the only one to appear in both EBF4 and EBF5. In comparison, the Thorn Bow was reimagined as The Stinger, while The Phantom, the Crystal Bow, and the Equilibrium were dropped entirely for EBF5.
