- ―In-game narration, after PUMPKUS becomes angry
PUMPKUS is a miniboss and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5 introduced in the v2 update. It is found in a secret room on the screen east to the Rainbow River Slime Cat, first becoming accessible once the players get the Stepladder.
Appearance[]
PUMPKUS is a small orange pumpkin drawn in an 8-bit style. Its underside has four brown, root-like legs and its top has a short brown stem and two small green vines. It also has two large eyes and a small smile.
When enraged, PUMPKUS's body becomes red, its vines rise up, and its expression becomes an angry frown.
PUMPKUS's arcade room is located on an island that appears to be located away from the main world, so it requires a portal to access it. The island has a very similar environment to that of the east-end of the Rainbow River, with pink grass, seagulls and other pink flora.
Overview[]
PUMPKUS is an unusual foe that poses little threat unless it is angered by taking damage. It becomes monstrously powerful when enraged, but it will calm down if it is healed by a Bio or Water attack. The "enraged" boost applies to PUMPKUS's base stats, so Dispel will have no effect on its power.
Whether calm or angry, PUMPKUS exclusively uses physical attacks. Its main attack is Bounce, which hits three random players for high non-elemental damage. It also has a slightly inaccurate Earth attack that can inflict Heavy, and an accurate Bio that inflicts Tired and an Evade debuff. Both of these skills hit the entire party at once with only 25% elemental damage, so resistance won't do much to weaken them. In its calm state, PUMPKUS can also make itself Lovable for a turn, potentially making it harder to focus on one at a time.
On higher difficulty levels, PUMPKUS has a better chance to inflict Heavy with Glob Roots, inflicts a much stronger Evade debuff with Bushy Vines, and gives itself three stacks of Bless with its buff. Additionally, it passively gives itself a stack of Morale at the beginning of every turn, allowing it to endure lethal blows with 1 HP; this will also prompt it to use Bushy Vines or Glob Roots, even if "Counter-Attacking Foes" is disabled.
The most reliable way to keep PUMPKUS calm is to use summons like the Water Slime or the Peridot Ore; they're cheap and have the advantage of increased Accuracy to get around an enraged PUMPKUS's doubled Evade. Razor Leaf can also be a good option due to its large number of hits, which significantly increases the chance of hitting them at least once. Maintaining Tired and Weaken will also limit PUMPKUS's damage in case it is accidentally left angry; the former also helps mitigate the Evade boost of its angry state while the latter amplifies its Dark weakness.
PUMPKUS has effectively permanent Morale, and will always perform one angry counterattack when brought to 1 HP. Because of this, wearing them down via attrition and catching each PUMPKUS is safer. That said, due to their low base HP and average defenses, setting up a damage combo for strong Limit Breaks like Nuke can kill them in a single hit as long as they aren't angry; just make sure to Dispel their Morale first!
PUMPKUS absorbs Bio and Water, but is weak to Fire, Earth, Wind and Dark. It is immune to Doom and Instant Death, highly resistant to Stun, Chill, Freeze, and debuffs to Defence and Magic Defence, and somewhat resistant to all other stat debuffs aside from HP. With "More Foe Resistance" enabled, it becomes neutral to Wind and Dark and immune to Stun, Chill, Freeze, Virus, and Poison; its resistance to Accuracy and Evade debuffs also increases.

On Hard/Epic, enters the battle with 1x on self.
PUMPKUS gains up to 24% extra Attack, Magic Attack, HP and Accuracy depending on how many optional bosses have been killed, medals awarded and monster cards obtained:
- +1% for each of the 13 optional bosses (counting the Sketch bosses as a single boss) for a 13% total. Bosses included are: ??.@'¬?]-?e??255, Snowflake, The Sketch Boss Rush, Sól and Skadi, Neon Valhalla, Telperion, Vulcan, Crystal Hydra, Matteus, Natalia, Lancelot, Annabelle and God.
- +1% at the 50, 65, 80, and 100 medals thresholds, for a 4% total.
- +0.04% for each of the 50 Monster Cards obtained, for a 2% total.
- +0.2% for each of the 12 Arcade bosses, the 8 Data Bunker simulations, and the 5 1P Challenges in the Battle Arena; for a 5% total.
After level 25, PUMPKUS gains a 5% boost to Attack and Magic Attack, and a 2.5% boost to HP and Accuracy on every level-up (these boosts stack additively, acting as a multiplier). This boost caps out at level 36.

Battle Logic[]
The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.
Action
- If Berserked → Bounce;
- If Angry → Bounce (1/2);
- If Syphoned → Nothing (1/2);
- Otherwise → Glob Roots (1/4), Bushy Vines (1/4);
- If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Buff;
- Otherwise → Bounce (1/3), Buff (1/3);
- If Syphoned → Nothing (1/3);
- Otherwise → Glob Roots (1/6), Bushy Vines (1/6).
Counter
- If Syphoned → 100% → Nothing;
- If Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled, or the attack reduces PUMPKUS to 1 HP → 100% → Glob Roots (1/2), Bushy Vines (1/2).
Additionally, PUMPKUS will become Angry if it receives 0 or positive damage (unless the attack also Freezes it), and will return to its Calm form only if it gets healed.
On Hard and Epic difficulties, PUMPKUS gets 1x Morale at the start of every turn.
Summon[]
PUMPKUS can be captured and used as a summon; unlike most summons, its effect changes depending on how many times it has been called in a turn. The first summon does absolutely nothing, but subsequent summons will call an angry PUMPKUS to Bounce on random foes, dealing three hits of enormous non-elemental physical damage. Despite requiring at least two turns to do any damage, it remains one of the most cost-efficient attack summons in the game.
PUMPKUS can also be summoned by the Alt Pumpkin Head; although it will never deal damage, this allows the player to use PUMPKUS with a single "proper" cast.
