The Pearl Golem is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is largely found in coastal areas like the Rainbow River.

Appearance[]

The Pearl Golem has a standard Golem body made of light grey stone dotted with small beige barnacles. It has dull brown rocks for toes, small patches of dark green algae around its jagged mouth and the lower edge of its left shoulder, and large white pearls acting as hip and elbow joints. A pair of smaller pearls are set into each side of its "head", evoking widely spaced eyes near its shoulder joints. Its left shoulder has branches of beige coral, while its right shoulder is dominated by a cluster of yellowish sponges. Its arms end in huge orange spiral shells with brown speckles, resembling massive drills.

Overview[]

The Pearl Golem mainly uses brutal physical attacks, several of which are at least partly Earth or Water-based; notably, its Flying Chunks attack uses both elements over its multiple hits. Many of its skills can inflict Stagger or Wet; the latter is especially problematic when combined with its one magic attack: Chilling Breath. While the multi-target Ice damage is unimpressive, the high Chill chance can combine with Wet to make Freeze; even without that, it'll increase the damage of the Pearl Golem's Water attacks. Some of its moves will also summon a Quartz Ore or a Sapphire Ore; on higher Difficulty levels, they can also call a Zircon Ore and potentially spawn two Ores at once.

The Pearl Golem has low Evade and above-average Defence, so magic attacks are more effective at harming it. Its status resistances are relatively sparse, allowing it to be crippled by Weaken, Tired, and Curse or even have its own damage stacking turned against it with Stagger, Wet, and Chill/Freeze combos; the latter is especially useful given its severe Ice weakness. Alternatively, Sandstorm support from the Burned Fallen summon or the Desert Scorpion can inflict Dry on the combatants, cancelling out Wet and reducing the power of the Pearl Golem's Water and Ice attacks while amplifying its Bomb weakness.

The Pearl Golem absorbs Earth and Water, is immune to Wind, Poison, and Virus, strongly resists Fire, Thunder, Bio, Stun, Doom, and Instant Death, and slightly resists all stat debuffs except for HP. On the other hand, it is weak to Bomb and extremely weak to Ice. Enabling "More Foe Resistance" removes its Ice weakness, greatly increases its resistance to Attack and Magic Attack debuffs, and makes it immune to Fire, Thunder, Bio, Stun, Chill, and Freeze.

Summon[]

The Pearl Golem can be captured and used as a summon. It uses a powered-up Chilling Breath on the foes, hitting all of them for magical Ice damage, inflicting several stacks of Chill, and changing the weather to Huge Hail for five turns.

Although its base power isn't very high, the Pearl Golem is an effective means of inflicting Chill en masse - both directly and through changing the weather to Huge Hail - to enable Freeze combos and empower Water and Ice-based offensives. However, remember that Huge Hail can Chill the players as well, potentially opening them to enemy Water and Ice attacks.
