The Pixel Popper is a non-elemental cat toy available for NoLegs in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
Description[]
The Pixel Popper set consists of a basic sword and shield with an 8-bit aesthetic. It is colored entirely in shades of gray with a few white accents; its details and angles make it appear to have been assembled entirely from small squares.
Normal[]
The Pixel Popper is a strong, balanced weapon with the fourth-best Attack, the third-best Magic Attack, and the second-best Evade among cat toys. Its special effects are based on Snowflake's skill set, occasionally unleashing Bone Fish with its weapon-elemental skills and casting Rice Ball Bomb between turns; both benefit from its non-elemental boost. Despite having lower power than Snowflake's versions and running on NoLegs's weaker offensive stat, these skills significantly increase his damage output; Bone Fish also has a great chance to briefly Syphon its target, although its unleash chance is too low to be relied upon without using NoLegs's Normal Attack and/or the Meow Meow Badge.
The Pixel Popper is also notable for inflicting Random status effects with its weapon-elemental skills. Although this theoretically gives NoLegs access to the likes of Scorch and Instant Death, it's hampered by the unpredictability of its results and the cat toy lacking a boost to status infliction, unlike the Alchemist's Bow or the Alchemy Set. On the other hand, this means that NoLegs has more leeway to play with Random while focusing on the Pixel Popper's offensive potential; if its on-hit status becomes problematic, status-changing Flairs can give it a consistent ailment.
The Pixel Popper is mostly comparable to the Steel Buckler as a decent non-elemental cat toy; its advantages are good Evade, and superior offense (from both its stats and its auto-skills). Either weapon is a serviceable option for NoLegs until the Star Hammer is acquired near the end of the game. Stat-wise, it has identical Attack to the Turtle Shell, as well as superior Evade, a decent auto-skill, and much earlier availability; however, it's also frailer and lacks the Food boost.
As with most offensive cat toys, the Pixel Popper is outclassed by the Honjo Masamune, which has far more general damage output in exchange for crippled HP and a little less Evade. Conversely, its potential niche in an Evade-based Target Tank build is better filled by the Neon Lightbulb, which has even higher Evade and useful Stunning potential; additionally, the Human Skull has identical Evade, superior bulk, and a variety of support options in exchange for much less offensive power.
The Pixel Popper resists Thunder, Heavy, Light and Stun, with all but the Thunder resistance becoming an immunity at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Pixel Popper is an odd support cat toy with a pathetic boost to Attack - the second-lowest boost of any cat toy, barely ahead of the Alt Human Skull - but it has great Defence and the third-best Evade among NoLegs's weapons in Equip Remix. It can apply Random status effects with Weapon-elemental skills, but its most notable effect lets it call upon one of three Arcade summons between turns. BOSH cripples the Attack of all foes, PHOENIX bestows Auto-Revive upon the party, and TOTOM fully heals them while curing their ailments and debuffs.
Despite having potentially powerful effects, the Alt Pixel Popper's luck-based nature is its downfall. The trigger chance on its auto-summons are rather low, and BOSH (which has priority over PHOENIX and TOTOM) is effectively useless against foes that don't use many physical attacks or just have high resistance to Attack debuffs. As entertaining and potentially powerful as Random is, it is also highly unreliable; even with a status-changing Flair, the weapon lacks a status boost or a weapon-elemental counter to more effectively apply its ailments. The cat toy's stats suggest potential for Target tanking, but the Alt Honjo Masamune has four times as much Evade to compensate for its inferior bulk.
The Alt Pixel Popper resists Thunder, Heavy, Light and Stun, becoming immune to all but the first at max level.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
The Pixel Popper is found in the Hope Harbor Glitch Area, inside the topmost chest. The chest is partially hidden behind a rock and guarded by a battle that appears as a Bone Bat.
