The Pumpkin Head is a male hat in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It's a seasonal item that is only available during Halloween; as such, its armor counterpart is the Coat of Teeth.
Description[]
The Pumpkin Head is a large orange jack-o-lantern (a pumpkin traditionally carved with some sort of face for Halloween) being worn as a helmet. It has different designs based on which player is wearing it.
- Matt's version is a stylized skull with oval eye holes, two small nostrils, and a wide, thin mouth lined with stitch-like notches.
- Lance's design is a traditional jack-o-lantern, with a triangular nose, a crescent-like mouth with large square teeth, and rectangular eyes set in a slight glare. This is the design used for the Pumpkin Head's equipment icon.
- NoLegs has a simple design with two round eye holes and a small, triangular mouth set in a slight frown.
Normal[]
The Pumpkin Head offers a reasonable boost for Defence and Magic Defence, but lacks additional boosts. It also has underwhelming special effects, only raising the odds of making foes Surrender and occasionally calling a Blood Bat to deal light part-Bio damage to a foe while healing a bit of its summoner's HP.
Overall, the Pumpkin Head is fairly mediocre, with its only unique asset being the ability to increase the chances of Surrender. However, it does have a minor niche in Lance's Virus build; it doesn't increase Bio resistance as much as the Gas Mask, but its lack of Virus resistance and HP-draining summon works well with the Biohazard Blaster. Matt and NoLegs can also use it in this regard, although they will usually prefer the Gas Mask.
The Pumpkin Head resists Bio, Holy, Curse and Bad Luck. The latter two become an immunity at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Pumpkin Head has a reasonable boost for Defence and Magic Defence, and also moderately raises HP, Attack and Magic Attack; however, this comes at the cost of minor Evade and Accuracy penalties. It can also increase the chances of foes surrendering, but its most interesting ability lets it summon PUMPKUS between turns; since this counts as summoning PUMPKUS once, the player can then summon it during their actual turn to get an immediate angry attack.
While the Alt Pumpkin Head is initially rather underwhelming, it may be worthwhile to use it once PUMPKUS has been captured. Given PUMPKUS's high damage, low SP cost, and non-elemental nature, it can supplement just about any battle, and the Alt Pumpkin Head's auto-summon makes it easier to spam. Outside of this niche, it's outclassed by the Alt Santa Hat and the Alt Space Helmet, which trade its offensive aspects for an array of support effects and completely superior defensive stats, respectively.
The Alt Pumpkin Head resists Dark and Earth. Neither of these become an immunity at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
The Pumpkin Head can be bought for 300 gold in any equipment shop during the Halloween season (October 1-November 7), e.g. Hope Harbor, Greenwood Village or Redpine Town.
