The Purple Squid is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It's primarily seen in the Rapture and some parts of the Mystic Woods, usually near water. It is a member of the Squids enemy group.

Appearance[]

Hence its name, the Purple Squid is a giant purple cephalopod. It has a tube-shaped mouth, big green eyes, and a large, bulbous mantle which has a skull symbol on it. The Purple Squid also has pink bumps all over its body, and its two long tentacles have spikes at the end of them.

Overview[]

Purple Squids are high-tier foes that can prove difficult to defeat, especially on Hard or Epic difficulty wherein they enter the battle with numerous stacks of Poison which allows them to heal themselves after every turn since they absorb Bio damage. The main threat they pose comes from an assortment of Bio and Dark attacks which can inflict a number of crippling status effects. The Bio attacks can debuff the party members' Magic Defense and inflict Poison or Burn, while the Dark attacks debuff Accuracy and inflict Doom or Invisible. On Hard or Epic difficulty, they can also use a devastating Bomb attack that can Dispel the party members. The majority of these effects can be remedied with Purify, Garlic, and other similar methods, though players should consider applying Bless to the party members for extra protection.

The majority of the Purple Squid's attacks are magic, so attempting to Syphon or Berserk one will usually work in your favor. When Syphoned or Berserked, Purple Squids are limited to only using physical attacks with their arms, although these attacks still have a chance to inflict Poison. However, as with all Squids in EBF5, Purple Squids lose their arms if hit with a powerful attack; if an armless Purple Squid is Syphoned or Berserked, it will Surrender.

If one chooses to defeat a Purple Squid normally, it should be noted that the squid has a few elemental resistances; in addition to Bio, it also absorbs Water and resist Wind; however, it's weak to Thunder, Ice, Earth, and Holy, giving players plenty of options for taking it down. The Purple Squid also possesses a mere handful of status effect resistances; it strongly resists Stun, Chill, Freeze, and Accuracy debuffs, and moderately resists Doom and Death; aside from those, the squid can be afflicted with the effects or debuffs of your choosing. Do note, however, that when a Purple Squid dies, it has a small chance to make the party members Stuffed.

  • If Syphoned, Berserked, or catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Tentacle Hit (1/2), Poisonous Tentacles (1/2);
  • <49% HP and the Squid has lost its arms → Ink Blob (1/4), Black Smoke (1/4);

    • If playing on Hard/Epic → Sea Bomb (2/24), Life Drain (3/24), Burning Acid (3/24);
    • Otherwise → Life Drain (1/6), Burning Acid (1/6);
