"Flying drones only exist to take up-skirt photos and other perverted spying! Let's smash them!"
―Natalie's angry, mature remark, Epic Battle Fantasy 5

The Red Flybot is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is typically found in No Man's Land and the Iron Fortress but go on to appear in several other locations.

Appearance[]

The Red Flybot is reminiscent of the Drill Bot from the previous games. It is a roughly spherical black robot with grey accents and red lines running through it. A propeller is mounted on top of its body, constantly spinning to keep it aloft. It has a central red orb for its "eye", along with two smaller ones towards the top of it. It has two cylindrical "arms" which are capable of extending blades or firing lasers.

Judging by the color scheme, the Red Flybot appears to be made out of/augmented by reverse-engineered Cosmic Monolith technology.

Overview[]

The Red Flybot has two single-target non-elemental attacks; neither is especially impressive, but its magic-based Laser attack is a little stronger than the physical Stab. Its true forte is debilitating the party and supporting its allies; it can inflict Syphon on the party, apply Target status on a player and even reverse buffs and debuffs with its signature Recycle skill. Higher difficulty levels give it even more support potential; its Laser gains a decent chance to briefly Confuse its target, and its Syphoning Signal doubles its infliction chance while also granting Brave to the Flybot and its allies.

While it can't do much on its own, the Red Flybot becomes a priority target if it is paired with stronger foes, especially high-tier enemies such as the Defender Mk III. It's smart enough to use Recycle on the best possible target (either a heavily-buffed player or a heavily-debuffed enemy), but Syphon prevents it from using all of its main support skills; at this point, all the player needs to worry about is possible Confusion from its Laser attack on Hard or Epic. Berserk is a bit riskier, since it forces the Flybot to spam Syphoning Signal, but sufficient Syphon resistance and Dispel support can mitigate the effects as the party works on destroying it or other foes. It's not terribly difficult to kill, with low HP and only slightly-above-average Evade.

The Red Flybot resists Bio and is immune to Earth, but is weak to Water, Thunder and especially Bomb. It resists Stun, Syphon, Death, and Doom while being completely immune to Virus and Poison. Activating "More Foe Resistance" allows it to absorb Dark and nullify both Bio and Thunder; it also becomes resistant to Fire, Ice, Water. and debuffs to Magic Attack, Magic Defence, and Evade.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If Syphoned, catch score >55, and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Recycle;
  • If Syphoned → Stab (1/2), Laser (1/2);
  • If Berserked → Syphoning Signal;
  • If a randomly selected foe doesn't have Brave and two randomly selected players aren't Syphoned → Syphoning Signal (1/5);
    • If for any active player [sum of buffs - sum of debuffs] > 100%, or for any foe [sum of debuffs - sum of buffs] > 100% → Recycle (6/25);
      • If the selected target doesn't have Target → Set Target (38/500), Stab (121/500), Laser (121/500);
      • Otherwise → Stab (7/25), Laser (7/25);
    • Otherwise;
      • If the selected target doesn't have Target → Set Target (2/25), Stab (9/25), Laser (9/25);
      • Otherwise → Stab (2/5), Laser (2/5);
  • Otherwise;
    • If for any active player [sum of buffs - sum of debuffs] > 100%, or for any foe [sum of debuffs - sum of buffs] > 100% → Recycle (3/10);
      • If the selected target doesn't have Target → Set Target (14/200), Stab (63/200), Laser (63/200);
      • Otherwise → Shot (7/20), Laser (7/20);
    • Otherwise;
      • If the selected target doesn't have Target → Set Target (2/20), Stab (9/20), Laser (9/20);
      • Otherwise → Stab (1/2), Laser (1/2).

* Recycle always targets the best reverse target, ignoring Lovable and Target (except when catch score >55 and all players are Lovable, where it has a 20% chance of choosing the best reverse target and otherwise targets randomly).

Before the v2 update, due to an oversight, the Red Flybot could use Recycle's targeting AI to select a target only to switch to a different attack afterwards, leading to situations where it would attack its own allies or itself with its Stab, Laser and Set Target attacks.

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 33%;
    • If Syphoned → Stab;
    • Otherwise → Laser.

Summon[]

The Red Flybot can be captured and used as a summon. It uses Recycle on a single target (player or enemy), inverting their buffs and debuffs.

Compared to the other Flybot summons (Blue and Yellow), the Red Flybot has the narrowest scope but the highest versatility; being slightly cheaper than its counterparts helps in that regard. It's a fantastic option for dealing with a boss or even an elite enemy that likes buffing itself; depending on the situation, it can cripple their stats for the party's benefit or just make them more susceptible to Capturing attempts. If you're pairing it with other debuffs, remember to use it first; otherwise, you'll end up reversing the debuffs you inflict on the target as well.
