The Riot Shield is a dark-elemental cat toy available to NoLegs in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
Description[]
The Riot Shield is a standard-issue riot police shield, being rectangular and slightly curved with a small visor to see through. It is mostly black, with white stripes near the top and bottom and a simple white cat face painted underneath the visor. It comes with a black police baton with a white handle and a small strap at the end.
Normal[]
The Riot Shield halves Evade in exchange for granting the best HP, Defence and Magic Defence of any cat toy; it also has serviceable Attack to let NoLegs maintain his offensive presence. Its weapon-elemental skills can inflict Weaken, which works nicely with its bulk and Dark boost; its ability to counter with a Normal Attack gives NoLegs extra chances to apply the status. It can also cast Bind between turns, but the extremely low debuff strength means that it's mostly useful for negating enemy Evade buffs.
Although the Riot Shield has a useful combination of power and bulk, the latter is somewhat wasted on NoLegs; essentially, it gives him the base defensive stats of the other players. The Neon Lightbulb is generally a better defensive cat toy thanks to its excellent Evade; alternatively, the Honjo Masamune has incredible offensive power to ensure that foes get less chances to attack in the first place (while also having good Evade to fall back on). Additionally, the Devil's Sunrise has an identical elemental boost, more Attack, and a much less severe Evade penalty in exchange for less bulk.
The Riot Shield resists Dark, Confuse, Stagger, Death and Doom, with all but the first becoming an immunity at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Riot Shield is a Bomb-based weapon with decent HP and great defenses; among cat toys, its Defence is the third-highest and its Magic Defence is the second-highest. This comes at the cost of a small Evade penalty, but NoLegs will generally be a little bulkier overall. Its weapon-elemental skills can inflict Weaken to further improve the party's survival by lowering the enemies' offenses over time; it can also be used to enhance allied Dark attacks, but other weapons are more effective in this role.
The Alt Riot Shield has an acceptable Attack stat for offensive purposes, but its elemental boost is somewhat underwhelming; NoLegs's only Bomb skills are the shared Bullet Bob line. Its Blade Blitz counter-attack does decent damage while applying its on-hit Weaken, and it sometimes casts Poison Gas between turns, which can be useful or hindering depending on the situation. It's not a bad choice for supporting a Virus party (especially when paired with the Tentacle or the Bitey Badge), but other cat toys generally offer much better offensive potential.
The Alt Riot Shield resists Dark, Bio, and Bomb, becoming immune to none of them at Level 5.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
The Riot Shield is found in the bridge screen at No Man's Land, in a chest guarded by a battle that appears as a Cat Sniper.
