"Turtle slime! ^___^"
―Natalie, Epic Battle Fantasy 4

The Sand Slime is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5, and a summon in the latter. It appears mostly around the sandy area of Goldenbrick Resort and Hope Harbor in EBF4 and 5 respectively. It is a member of the Slime enemy class.

Appearance[]

As the name suggests, Sand Slimes are small blobs of a flaxen sand-like substance with a pair of small eyes and a cat-like smile.

In EBF4, Sand Slimes are beach-themed, with black eyes and various sea life on their heads: a green turtle, a dark pink octopus, or a mixture of sea stars, clam shells, and coral branches.

In EBF5, Sand Slimes have green eyes and desert-themed accessories: a large cactus with beady black eyes, two smaller cacti protruding like horns, or a skull of what appears to be an ox.

Overview[]

Regardless of the game they appear in, the Sand Slime is a low-tier foe with insignificant power. The EBF4 version uses non-elemental leaps that can rarely inflict Slimed and one Water-based attack that can Wet its target; in contrast, the EBF5 version prefers Earth and Bio attacks that can Poison, Stun, and (on harder difficulties) Dry their victims. In both cases, the damage of these attacks is negligible and their status infliction is low enough to be little more than an occasional annoyance.

While Sand Slimes have a variety of weaknesses (Poison and Water in EBF4, Bomb and especially Wind in EBF5, Ice and Dark in both), their HP is low enough that they can be wiped out by a good-power attack that they don't resist. The EBF5 version is especially vulnerable, as its only resistance is an Earth immunity; in contrast, EBF4 Sand Slimes absorb Earth while being resistant to Fire and immune to Wind and Thunder. Either way, multi-target attacks like Ice Storm or Antimatter Flux can wipe out Sand Slimes en masse; they're also incredibly vulnerable to Instant Death.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

  • Berserked or/and Syphoned → Jump & back;
  • Otherwise → Jump & dissolve (1/3), Jump & back (1/3), Bubble Burst (1/3).

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If Berserked → Jump & Back;
  • If Syphoned → Jump & Dissolve;
  • Otherwise → Jump & Back (1/6), Jump & Dissolve (1/6), Cactus (2/6), Poisonous Thorns Volley (2/6).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 100% and not Syphoned → Poisonous Thorns Volley.

Additionally, if any front line player has equipment that scares Slimes, the Sand Slime will immediately Surrender and Flee on their turn.

Summon[]

In EBF5, the foe can be captured to be used as a summon. It attacks by spawning its cactus attack to a single target and and dealing a good amount of physical Bio damage with a slight chance of Stun.
