The Sand Tail, also known as Sandworm's Tail, is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 2, Epic Battle Fantasy 4 since the Battle Mountain update, and Epic Battle Fantasy 5 since the v2 update. It appears only as a helper to the Sand Worm boss.

Appearance[]

The Sand Tail is the tail of a Sand Worm, and thus has a very similar appearance. It is a plump, sinuous mass of light tan flesh emerging from the ground. The sides of the tail are lined with black spikes and small brown blemishes, while the tip of the tail has a particularly large black spike or stinger with small, forward-curving barbs.

Overview[]

The Sand Tail assists the Sand Worm in battle with strong single-target physical attacks. It can burrow underground to strike a player with the spikes along its length, hitting multiple times for slightly Earth-based damage. However, its most annoying attack is a quick stab with its stinger; this isn't as strong as its other moves, but it has a good chance to Stun its victim for several turns - this can easily spell disaster for an under-prepared party.

Being a mere appendage of the Sand Worm, the Sand Tail cannot be "killed" in the traditional sense; if its HP is depleted, it simply retreats underground for a few turns. As such, it is often better to debilitate the tail with status effects and stat debuffs whenever possible, reducing its threat level while denying the Sand Worm the chance to restore it; however, keep in mind that the Sand Tail usually has a bevy of resistances to ailments and debuffs.

Interestingly, the foe does not appear in Epic Battle Fantasy 3, leaving the Sandworm to fight on its own in this game.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2[]

  • Anything → Emerge (1/3), Prick (1/3), Spinal Spikes (1/3).

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

  • Anything → Emerge (1/2), Prick (1/2).

The first time Sand Tail is defeated, it will be regrown three turns after. In case of subsequent "deaths", the tail shows up on the next turn.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Action

  • Anything → Emerge (1/3), Prick (1/3), Spinal Spikes (1/3).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 100% → Spinal Spikes.

Additionally, like all the Classic foes, the Sandworm's Tail ignores the Lovable status on players.

Trivia[]

  • The Sand Tail is one of the few enemies which is not killed outright by the party — instead, it simply retreats underground for a few turns.
