The Sapphire Saint, known as Sapphire Giant in EBF4, is a Water-elemental sword available for Matt in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5.

Description[]

The Sapphire Giant is a large blue broadsword with intricate markings covering its blade and a blue gem set in its pommel. The Sapphire Saint is similar, but with a noticeably thinner blade and slightly thicker markings.

In both of its appearances so far, the Sapphire Giant/Saint has had high Attack and a good Defence bonus, complementing Matt's physical-focused stats. It also has a Water-based unleash to exploit its elemental boost.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Sapphire Giant has a notably high Attack stat, only beaten by the Anarchy in the base game; in the Premium version, it's also surpassed by the Equilibrium and matched by the Drill Lance. It also provides the best Defence among swords, along with largely incidental Magic Attack and a modest Accuracy penalty. It also may cast Flood with weapon-elemental skills, which gives Matt a means to benefit from its Water boost.

Between hefty Attack, a powerful unleash, and easy accessibility, the Sapphire Giant is a staple of offensive Matt builds throughout the game. It is an amazing generalist weapon only outclassed by the Equilibrium, although swords exploiting elemental boosts will do better for that one element (e.g.Heaven's Gate with Holy Sword, or the Magma Hammer with Eruption) and should be substituted as appropriate.

The Sapphire Giant resists both Water and Fire. Neither of these becomes an immunity at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Normal[]

The Sapphire Saint is a solid offensive sword, with great Attack, pitiful Magic Attack, and solid Defence. Its Weapon-elemental skills can inflict Wet, and have a small chance to unleash Torrent for further damage and Wet stacks; the latter benefits from its elemental boost, but Matt should use his natural skills if he specifically wants to maximize his Water damage.

Functionally, the Sapphire Saint is the same as its larger EBF4 predecessor; it is a heavy-duty Water weapon capable of dishing out good damage with few penalties. It is immensely useful for the early game, as it has good Attack and a moderately strong (if unreliable) unleash; furthermore, it can be upgraded to Level 3 very easily. As many foes in Hope Harbor and No Man's Land are weak to Water (including Jotun and the Defender Mk III), the Sapphire Saint's Normal Attack offers great damage output for that point in the game.

However, the Sapphire Saint loses some of its potency as the game goes on; there are fewer foes weak to Water, and the Soul Eater outclasses it as a day-to-day offensive sword. Furthermore, Matt himself becomes better at supporting physical builds of other characters, such as Iron Tusk Anna or Honjo Masamune NoLegs.

The Sapphire Saint resists Holy, Fire, Burn and Scorch. It becomes immune to the latter two at Level 5.

Equip Remix[]

The very definition of hypothermia, the Alt Sapphire Saint has average offenses and negligible boosts to Defence and Magic Defence, as well as a boost to Water and Ice attacks. While both boosts are very easily exploited by Matt, the sword's main asset is the remarkable Chill chance on its weapon-elemental skills. Once it's fully upgraded, it gains a decent chance of summoning Rain between turns; the Wet it can apply to foes works in sync with its on-hit Chill to facilitate Freeze infliction.

For pure Ice damage, the Alt Sapphire Saint is slightly weaker than the Alt Ice Needle; however, it compensates with a second elemental boost and superior support abilities, especially for Freeze-based strategies. It's also notable as the only Alt sword to empower Water attacks, although Anna may be a superior choice for physical Water damage with the Alt Cold Steel.

The Alt Sapphire Saint resists Water, Ice, Chill, and Freeze, becoming immune to the latter two at Level 5.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

The Sapphire Giant is found inside the Crystal Caverns, in the bottom chest of the first wooden bridges screen.
