The Shockwave Bomb is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is found in the Mineshaft Maze, either by itself or as a "turret" summoned by the Neon Valhalla.

Appearance[]

The Shockwave Bomb is a tan-colored bomb that appears to be a weaponized wind turbine. It is shorter than other Bombs, with a small point on its otherwise flat tan head; large holes in its top reveal a spinning propeller. It has a cylindrical copper body with silver stripes and small tan fins at its base; like the Acid Bomb, it deploys a large white parachute after being launched, allowing it to literally explode in the party's face without hitting the ground.

Like all of the Bombs found in the Mineshaft Maze, the Shockwave Bomb is deployed from a metallic tan panel on the ground or on top of the Neon Valhalla. It has a simple tan launching frame with a countdown light on the side.

Overview[]

A Shockwave Bomb's explosion deals massive magical Wind damage with a high chance to Dispel the entire party (up to 100% on higher difficulty levels). This suicide attack is monstrously accurate and hits three times, so high-Evade builds and Morale won't help against it; however, Wind immunity or Enchanted will completely nullify its damage. Dispel immunity or Bless can stop it from wiping out the party's buffs; alternatively, they can just rebuff themselves if the relevant skills aren't on cooldown.

The best defense against a Shockwave Bomb is obviously to kill it before it can attack; watch the colored lamps on its frame to see how close it is to launching. The party normally has three turns to destroy it, but Stun and Freeze will stop the countdown for their duration. If it's ready to launch (indicated by the green lamp being on), Syphon will make it malfunction and Surrender; alternatively, Instant Death will destroy it on the spot. Keep in mind that the Shockwave Bomb is quite resistant to these status effects, becoming completely immune to Syphon, Doom, and Instant Death if "More Foe Resistance" is active; Spark Shower will Stun-lock individuals, but a dedicated status build is recommended if there's multiple Bombs in the wave.

If the party needs to destroy a Shockwave Bomb directly, it has low Evade and several elemental weaknesses. Bomb and Earth attacks will do the most damage - especially boosted by Dry and Heavy, respectively - but its weaknesses to Thunder, Ice, and Water can be exploited in Wet combos. Overall, Earth is the most consistent and exploitable weakness, especially since "More Foe Resistance" removes the Ice and Thunder weaknesses while turning Bomb into an absorption.

Unlike most foes in EBF5 (and like other Bombs), the Shockwave Bomb cannot be captured to be used as a summon.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

  • Counter = 1 and Syphoned → Surrender;
  • Counter = 1 → Decrease Counter by 1 → Launch;
  • Counter > 1 → Decrease Counter by 1.

* Counter starts at 3.

Unlike most other foes, the Shockwave Bomb doesn't get a counter when "Counter-Attacking Foes" is enabled.

Trivia[]

  • The Shockwave Bomb is the only Bomb to explode without hitting the ground.
