The Slimy Tentacle is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It appears in The Beyond as a helper for The Devourer; he begins with one Slimy Tentacle in the first slot and may summon more to replace defeated appendages.

Appearance[]

The Slimy Tentacle is a large tentacle attached to The Devourer, resembling a vastly larger and more detailed version of the Beholder's appendages. Its top half is segmented, bumpy and a dark shade of red, while its lower half is pink and littered with suckers; a thin, sickly yellow stripe separates the two. When cut, it reveals dark green innards.

Overview[]

The Slimy Tentacle is The Devourer's "mage" appendage, specializing in magic and status effects. It can slap a player for non-elemental physical damage and a high chance of Syphon (all but guaranteed on Hard or Epic difficulty), or cast one of two multi-target spells; a weak Ice attack with a decent Freeze chance or a powerful Wind attack with increased Accuracy and a great chance to Curse everyone. While none of these attacks are particularly lethal on their own, their associated statuses can drastically reduce the party's chances of survival against The Devourer.

Like the Spikey Tentacle, the Slimy Tentacle can be cut if it suffers a powerful blow; this slightly increases its base Evade, but limits it to spraying acid on its turn. This attack hits all players for magical Bio damage and a high chance of Poison, but neither is especially powerful. Harder difficulties change its on-hit effect to Virus, which can potentially spread back to The Devourer and its appendages for free healing; as such, killing a severed Slimy Tentacle should be a priority unless the party can spare turns to Purify their enemies.

Although the Slimy Tentacle isn't too difficult to kill, it's more efficient to cripple it so The Devourer can't replace it with new appendages. Alternating attacks with the Neon Lightbulb and Thor's Hammer status builds will reliably stun-lock it (and the rest of the boss's helpers), but either Syphon or Berserk will lock it out of its magic unless it's been severed; make sure that the party has Syphon immunity to negate the side effect of its Hit spamming. Its stats aren't particularly notable outside of slightly above-average Accuracy, but remember that it'll become stronger depending on how much optional content the player has completed.

Aside from its Bio absorption, the Slimy Tentacle has no elemental resistances and severe weaknesses to Fire, Ice, and Thunder. It's also immune to Chill and Freeze, quite resistant to Stun, Weaken, Tired, Curse, Bad Luck, Doom, and Instant Death, and slightly resistant to all debuffs, particularly HP. "More Foe Resistance" enables it to absorb Bomb and Water in addition to Bio.

Like the rest of The Devourer's appendages, the Slimy Tentacle cannot be captured.
