Spirit2
Spirit1

Spirit is a type of foe found in Epic Battle Fantasy 2 and Epic Battle Fantasy 4. It appear as sphere of white-purple gas and light, vaguely resembling ethereal flames. Its only notable features are two round hands floating separate of the body and a simple face consisting of two narrow eyes and a jagged mouth.

Spirits are Holy-based foes that tend to appear late in their respective games. Their most unique feature among enemies in the Epic Battle Fantasy series is the Auto-revive (Autolife) status they enter battle with. Combined with their penchant for disruptive attacks, Spirits can be an irritating opponent, especially if paired with other late-game enemies.

Epic Battle Fantasy 2

Spirits appear in the last few enemy waves (i.e. excluding boss waves) of the game. Two of them are fought in Stage 17, two more appear alongside a Spike Moth in Stage 18, and one appears with a pair of Drill Bots in Stage 21.

In this game, Spirits are weak to darkfire and wind, without any notable resistances. Their Autolife status instantly restores them with full HP when they are defeated.

Attacks

  • A combo of punches on one player.
  • Shoots an exploding ball of blue fire, damaging one player with a chance to blind them.
  • Summons a blinding light, damaging all players as well as having a chance of syphoning the players.

Strategy

The Spirit's main asset is its Autolife status, which fully heals it when its HP is depleted. This only works once, so you can simply re-kill the enemy when it revives, but the best counter is to have Matt use Unleash with the Anarchy equipped - not only is the attack likely to dispel the Spirit's buff, but the Anarchy's Dark-element attacks do extra damage against it. Natalie can do the most damage with Fireball, but she should also focus on maintaining Barrier and healing any damage/status ailments the Spirit inflicts.

Epic Battle Fantasy 4

Spirits are found in the upper levels of the Temple of Godcat. They have become slightly less difficult for this appearance; their Auto-Revive only restores half of their HP and it only lasts for the first five turns of the battle. Offensively, they use Holy skills like Glitter and an explosive light which may inflict weaken status.

The Spirit's only weakness is Dark, and it absorbs Holy. Since it has no status immunity, it is extremely vulnerable to Dispel, which removes its possibly irritating Auto-Revive status.
