The Steel Buckler is a non-elemental cat toy used by NoLegs in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.
Description[]
The Steel Buckler is, unsurprisingly, a round buckler made of plain steel. It has a large raised dome in the center, surrounded by four smaller dots. Its associated weapon is a steel shortsword with small indents near the base of its blade, a red hilt, and a brown crossguard with a tiny red gem embedded into it.
Normal[]
The Steel Buckler has serviceable Attack, good Defence and Magic Defence (both tied for third among cat toys), and decent HP; its Magic Attack is rather weak, but this isn't too problematic for the physically-inclined NoLegs. It empowers non-elemental skills like Sushi Cat or Star Blast; unfortunately, most of NoLegs's options to exploit this have significant cooldown times and run on his lower offensive stat. Once NoLegs learns Blade Blitz, the Steel Buckler can counter enemy attacks with the skill; it has no innate on-hit effects, but it does a fair amount of damage and status Flairs can give it some utility.
Overall, the Steel Buckler is a reliable day-to-day weapon that mitigates NoLegs's natural frailty without compromising his Evade; the Star Hammer is arguably a direct upgrade, but it is not available until the player defeats God in the Temple of Trials. However, it runs into serious competition around the midgame; the Pixel Popper has greater non-elemental power, and the Honjo Masamune has unparalleled offenses with any element. Both weapons also have good Evade, which tends to help NoLegs's survival more than the Steel Buckler's bulk.
The Steel Buckler resists Earth, Wind, Light, and Heavy, becoming immune to the latter two at Level 5.
Equip Remix[]
The Alt Steel Buckler has weak Magic Attack and average-at-best Attack, so it's not especially effective on offense, even with the non-elemental attacks it empowers. On the other hand, it has the third-best HP and Magic Defence (tied with the Alt Icecream Sandwich and the Alt Blood Bank in the former and tied with the Alt Godly Book in the latter), as well as the best Defence of any cat toy, although this comes at the cost of a modest Evade penalty. Its ability to grant Morale upon Defend further improves its bulk by negating defensive debuffs and protecting NoLegs from lethal attacks if he keeps his HP above 50%.
Unfortunately for the Alt Steel Buckler, its combination of great bulk and lowered Evade has poor synergy with NoLegs, who relies far more on the latter than the former to survive attacks. Its on-Defend Morale can be replicated by The Alt Tr*force or the Alt Genji Helmet for a Target tank build, allowing NoLegs to equip a weapon with better offensive or evasive capabilities. As a bulky tanking weapon, it's usually outmatched by the Alt Leaf Shield or the Alt Turtle Shell - even the Alt Riot Shield has a little more utility and offensive potential, although it's not quite as bulky.

The Steel Buckler is NoLegs's starting weapon, and is thus unlocked from the moment he joins the party after the piers of Hope Harbor.
