The Stone Idol is a foe and a summon in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. It is frequently found in Hope Harbor and the Wild Tropics, notably being one of the first enemies to be fought in the game..

Appearance[]

Stone Idols are small, vaguely anthropomorphic chunks of brown stone with short legs and black eyes with white irises. Their variants include:

  1. A somewhat oval-shaped stone with a straight crack in the middle that resembles a lopsided mouth. It has two small chunks of stone acting as arms, and its right eye is slightly larger than its left.
  2. A roughly circular stone with a single large eye and a smiling mouth. It has two small rock chips acting as thin arms, as well as larger chunks serving as its legs.
  3. A vaguely rectangular block of stone with no arms to speak of and two equally-sized eyes set very low on its body. A brown rope is tied around the middle of the stone; with the placement of its eyes, it evokes a simple headband.

Overview[]

As befitting one of the earliest foes in the game, Stone Idols are weak, simplistic foes that pose little threat to the party. They have three different physical attacks, two of which are partly Earth-based, but their damage is modest at best and they have no special effects beyond that. Strangely, despite calling in backup to help them perform some of their moves, they can't even summon more Stone Idols as reinforcements.

Overall, Stone Idols are bottom-priority targets that can be safely ignored until more dangerous foes are dealt with. While they do have several elemental resistances, a reasonably strong multi-target attack will wipe the floor with them.

The Stone Idol resists Fire, Thunder, Earth, and Bio, but is weak to Bomb and especially Ice. It is also extremely vulnerable to Chill, Freeze, and Stagger while having no resistance to other status effects or stat debuffs. If "More Foe Resistance" is enabled, it becomes immune to Fire, Thunder, and Bio, absorbs Earth, and resists Ice.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Action

  • If catch score >55 and all players are Lovable → Surrender;
  • If Berserked → Idol Pyramid;
  • Otherwise → Hit (1/3), Idol Stack (1/3), Idol Pyramid (1/3).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 50% → Idol Stack.

Summon[]

The Stone Idol can be captured and used as a summon. It gives the entire party several stacks of Dry to improve their resistance to Thunder and Ice; beware of foes with Fire and Bomb attacks, however.
