The Swordslinger is a member of the Slinger family of enemies in the Epic Battle Fantasy series. They roam in ancient areas like Kitten Kingdom Ruins or near mechanical factories like the Waste Disposal Plant; in EBF5, they appear in the Data Bunker. It can often be seen together with its shooty counterpart, the Gunslinger.

Appearance[]

The Swordslinger has a very similar appearance compared to its Gunslinger brethren: A floating robot wearing a long, old, tattered brown coat, with its metallic face partially covered by a wide brimmed cowboy hat. The only difference between the two is the decoration on their hat: While the Gunslinger has a magazine clipped to the back of its hat, the Swordslinger appears to have part of a sabre attached to the front instead.

Overview[]

In all games it's appeared in, the Swordslinger primarily uses non-elemental physical attacks that can hit a single party member several times (multiple smaller swords), or only once (giant sword, including one that resembles the Fusion Sword). While the attacks' non-elemental property means that elemental resistance will be of not much use, their base power are ultimately not very threatening, and the Swordslinger itself can be easily dispatched using Bomb skills.

Battle Logic[]

The following describes general logic of the enemy and attack patterns, with chances of each attack to be used. Conditions are listed from highest to lowest priority unless specified otherwise.

Epic Battle Fantasy 3[]

  • Berserked → Fusion Sword;
  • Otherwise → Knife (1/4), Sword Volley (1/4), Fusion Sword (1/4), Huge Sword (1/4).

Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]

  • ≥49% HP → Knife (1/3), Sword Volley (1/3), Fusion Sword (1/3);
  • <49% HP → Sword Volley (1/3), Fusion Sword (1/3), Huge Sword (1/3).

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

Action

  • If Berserked → Fusion Sword;
  • Otherwise → Knife (1/4), Sword Volley (1/4), Fusion Sword (1/4), Huge Sword (1/4).

Counter (only if Counter-Attacking Foes is enabled)

  • 25% → Huge Sword.

Additionally, like all the Classic foes, the Swordslinger ignores the Lovable status on players.

Summon[]

Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]

The foe can be captured to be used as a summon. When summoned, the Swordslinger uses its Huge Sword against a single target. While cheap and powerful, the summon will always have at least a 50% chance of missing. It should be noted that since targets that are inflicted with Freeze and Stun are incapable of dodging, it's still guaranteed to hit them (the same applies for the EBF1 simulation foes, since they have 0 Evade).

Swordslinger SP Whether the summon cures Freeze from players by forcing them to move (jump off the screen)
Attempts to stab a single target with a powerful non-elemental attack.
  • Always has a 50% chance of hitting.
  • Ignores target evade stat, and defensive buffs.
26 Kept
Target Power Type Element Status Effect Acc Crit RdF
Single 680 Physical ---- -- -- -- 100%* 10% 10%
Note: * Has a 50% chance of having its accuracy reduced to 0%.
Despite what the description says, it doesn't actually ignore foe Evade, meaning that against foes with extremely high Evade, the hit chance can be lower than 50%.

Trivia[]

  • In the Sword Volley attack, one of the swords has writing on the base of its blade that is totally unreadable due to its small size. It is unlikely to be noticed because of this.
