The Knife

The Knife is a non-elemental "staff" available for Natalie in Epic Battle Fantasy 5.

Description

The Knife is a typical chef's knife, with a black handle and a shiny steel blade. Three small silver bolts can be seen on the handle; two near the blade and one on the end.

Normal

The Knife gives a massive boost to Attack, as well as sharply boosting Accuracy and Evade; unfortunately, its complete absence of a Magic Attack stat makes it impractical for the magic-focused Natalie. However, unlike other physically-inclined staves (such as the Soul Crusher or the Gigavolt), its additional effects give it significant utility. It improves the power of Food and buffing skills, but it's most notable for its very high chance to inflict Instant Death with Weapon-elemental attacks; its Normal Attack counter gives it opportunities to exploit this even on the enemies' turn.

Between its boosts and its on-hit status, The Knife can be used in an offensive support build, with Natalie applying Instant Death to take out enemies in between supporting the party with buffs and Food. In this case, status infliction-boosting gear (i.e. the Blue Elephant and the Red Dress) and Good Luck/Bad Luck support can improve the odds of Instant Death. However, Natalie has several other support options if she doesn't need/want Death infliction; for example, the Beholding Eye has a better set of abilities and resistances in addition to a handy debuff boost (although it can't empower items).

The Knife grants resistances to Curse, Bad Luck, Doom and Death, becoming immune to all of them at Level 5.

Equip Remix

With colossal Attack and substantial Accuracy and Evade (all of which are the second-highest among Alt staves), The Alt Knife is a deadly weapon for physical offense...so, naturally, it's wielded by the least physically-inclined character in the party. However, while Natalie lacks any physical skills besides her Normal Attack, the staff provides some of its own; it has a high chance to unleash Fork Frenzy with Natalie's Weapon-elemental skills, and it frequently casts Sword Storm between turns. Both skills are enhanced by the staff's non-elemental boost while running off its exemplary Attack stat, allowing them to deal solid damage. Additionally, it often gives Haste between turns, allowing Natalie to double her damage output.

Overall, The Alt Knife may be one of Natalie's best options for her highly unorthodox physical attacker build; compared to the Alt Soul Crusher, it has no stat penalties and higher direct damage output. It works well with the Alt Casual Skirt, which provides extra Evade and a second non-elemental boost, and the Alt Blue Elephant, which offers auto-Berserk and another source of Haste. However, Natalie's awful base Attack means that it's almost always better to let other characters handle this niche.

The Alt Knife resists Curse, Bad Luck, and Dark. All of these become an immunity at Level 5.

The Knife is found in The Void, inside a chest accessible after defeating The Glitch.
