The Thunder Sprite (called Lightning Sprite in EBF4) is a foe in Epic Battle Fantasy 4 and 5; it is also a summon in the latter game. It primarily inhabits industrial areas, such as the Iron Fortress and the Waste Disposal Plant, but appears in areas such as the Temple of Godcat.
Appearance[]
The Thunder Sprite has a large, circular head and vaguely conical body with short arms, vaguely resembling a human child in a dress. It has yellow jagged edges around its head and "skirt", the latter of which exposes a black lower body, and it has a pair of horns resembling lightning bolts.
In EBF4, the Lightning Sprite has two blank white eyes as its only facial feature. The EBF5 version has two blue eyes with proper pupils and irises, a visible mouth, and a small blue diamond-shaped gem on its forehead.
Overview[]
True to its name, the Thunder Sprite uses Thunder-based spells - many of which can potentially Stun their targets - but it can also give itself beneficial status effects, most notably Charge. When it gains the latter status, it will perform a more powerful attack on its next turn, although what this attack is can vary between games.
Defensively, the Thunder Sprite's resistances are almost the same in all games it appears in; it absorbs Thunder, is immune to Stun, and weak to Bio, Dark and especially Earth. It is also vulnerable to Poison (and Virus, in EBF5), so the player has many ways to deal with it; because of its low HP, it may be best to use a quick round of Antimatter Flux or Pulsar to take it out while damaging other foes. Like all Sprites, it can be rendered a non-issue by Syphon, which locks it out of its annoying magic attacks.
Epic Battle Fantasy 4[]
The Lightning Sprite's main attack is Thunderbolt, which acts similarly to Natalie's version; it deals accurate magical Thunder damage with a tiny chance to Stun the victim. It also has two self-buffs; one gives it Defend and Regen, the other boosts its Magic Attack and gives it a Charge. The latter buff is a warning for its Thunder Blast, which hits the entire party for decent magical Thunder damage and a fair chance of Stagger; on higher difficulty levels, it'll open with this move by virtue of entering battle with Charge status.
The Lightning Sprite's damage output can be neutered or completely negated by high Thunder resistance while Stun and Stagger resistance prevent it from supporting its allies. Its buffs can be counteracted by Dispel, which it has no resistance to; its susceptibility to Poison helps counter its Regen and Giga Drill can turn its Defend status against it. However, the absolute best weapon against it is a reliable source of Syphon; it'll lock down all of the Sprite's skills, forcing it to do nothing on its turn until the status wears off.
A Thunder absorption and a Stun immunity are the extent of the Lightning Sprite's resistances; on the other hand, it's vulnerable to Poison and Bio, even more vulnerable to Dark, and extremely vulnerable to Earth. "More Foe Resistance" makes it immune to Dark and resistant to Fire, Tired, Dispel, and Syphon.
Epic Battle Fantasy 5[]
The Thunder Sprite has slightly above-average Magic Attack and some accurate, decently powerful spells to take advantage of it. Its Thunderbolt serves as its main source of damage (it can also Stun, but this is very rare), but it also has a high-Accuracy shock attack that can occasionally make the victim Tired. Its other two abilities require it to Charge up energy; fortunately for it, the move also gives it Defend to reduce the damage it takes for a turn. Once Charged, it can either cast Plasma Cage for decent magical Thunder damage and a good chance of a Stun (which becomes more likely and double-length on higher difficulty levels) or briefly electrify the air to potentially Stun everyone on the battlefield without resistance to the status (including the Sprite itself).
The simplest way to thwart a Thunder Sprite's antics is to give it Syphon, which limits it to its basic Head Bash; despite running off a surprisingly good Attack stat, its only notable trait is being the Sprite's only part-elemental attack. If that isn't an option, high Thunder resistance greatly lowers its damage output, but status resistances (especially to Stun) may be more important, especially given its potential to Stun everyone at once if it lucks out with its Electric attack. Between the base Accuracy of its spells and its ability to inflict Tired, tanking is more effective than evasion against it; however, it's weak enough that killing it outright is the most efficient option. If it Charges itself, Giga Drill will do significant damage even through Defend status; partially exploiting its biggest elemental weakness helps as well.
The Thunder Sprite's only resistance is a strong Thunder absorption; conversely, it's weak to Bio, Dark and especially Earth. It's also vulnerable to Stun, Poison, and Virus: the latter is particularly effective against it if it appears alongside other types of Sprite. With "More Foe Resistance" enabled, its Earth weakness is reduced, and it becomes resistant to Bio, Dark, Stun, Syphon, Doom, and Instant Death.

Summon[]
In EBF5, the Thunder Sprite can be captured and used as a summon; additionally, it has a chance to be called between turns by the Alt Wrath of Zeus. It creates Electric weather for five turns, potentially stunning players and foes alike; outfitting the party with some Stun-resistant gear can minimize the risk of this backfiring on them.
The Thunder Sprite summon is the only method by which the player can manually cause the Electric weather.
