The Undead Bear is a foe introduced in Epic Battle Fantasy 4. It mostly appears in Graybone Cemetery.

Appearance[]

The Undead Bear is a large bear with shaggy black fur dotted with dull purple patches; judging by the large stitches at the borders of its patches, it may actually be made of multiple bear corpses stitched together. It has black eyes set in an angry glare, a small black nose on its dull purple muzzle, two grey claws on each foot, and a small, rounded tail on its backside. A large black mass (presumably dirt) is piled on its back, dotted with white bones and what appears to be the mangled remains of a black wrought-iron fence.

Overview[]

The Undead Bear is largely similar to the Brown Bear of Ashwood Forest: a high-tier foe with powerful single-target physical attacks. Most of its moves are non-elemental, but it also has two part-Dark skills, one of which can inflict Doom, If struck by a powerful attack (in this case, one that depletes at least 30% of its maximum HP), it will become enraged, giving itself Berserk status and enabling its most powerful attack. On higher difficulty levels, it also gains a decent Defence buff when enraged, enabling it to better endure physical blows.

As with the Brown Bear, the main concerns with the Undead Bear should be to keep the party's Defence high and to work around its Enrage ability; Doom resistance isn't exceedingly important, since Bones inflicts it with a generous five-turn timer. If the Bear goes Berserk, Ice and Water skills can remove the status — take note that Water skills typically inflict Wet, which dampens one of the foe's elemental weaknesses. Its status resistances are fairly sparse, so it can be easily crippled with debuffs or locked out of its Dark skills with Syphon; Dispel can be used to remove its Hard/Epic Defence buff, but focusing on magic attacks is an alternative.

Fire and Holy attacks will deal massive damage to an Undead Bear, but mind the risk of Enraging it. On the other hand, it absorbs Bio and Dark while resisting Wind, Ice, and Water; it's also extremely resistant to Stun, Freeze, Doom, and Instant Death. Activating "More Foe Resistance" halves its elemental weaknesses while giving it additional resistance to Weaken, Tired, Curse, and debuffs to Attack and Defence.
