Weather is a gameplay mechanic introduced in Epic Battle Fantasy 5. These conditions affect both players and foes during battle in some manner, initiated at the start of the battle and during every foes-to-players turn transition.
List of Weather Conditions[]
Attacking weathers use one of the available spells on any player or foe on the screen, with same chance for each alive entity; for learnable spells special effects like statuses are always taken from its level 1 version, while power is individually set (and may be different when used by Foe or Player weather), accuracy is normal. Status-oriented weathers affect everyone, with 1000% accuracy.

??--[[/@#,, (Glitchy) |
//??_¬¬1<¬//+255 | Like Shroud, it hides players' and foes' stats, their status effects and (de)buffs, but only with 33% chance for every player/foe, re-randomized every time status bars are updated (swapping players, getting hit, etc); note that this only happens when inside the 4 first Glitch areas, outside of them, this weather has no effect. |

//??_¬¬1<¬//+999 | Same as Glitchy, but also makes action icons and dropped items appear garbled. (Actions' hover-over information and cursor-following icons are displayed normally.) |
Weather spells[]
Some weather effects can be used as ordinary spells by certain foes or as auto spells from equipment, when cast by equipment, their stats are exactly the same as when used by weather; on the other hand, when used by foes, they generally inflict additional status stacks or have increased status chance.
- Rain: used by Seaweed Chompers, 100% chance of 2x
Wet on everyone.
- Snow (Blizzard): used by Ice Sprites, 20% chance of 3x
Freeze on players and 25% chance of 2x
Freeze on foes.
- Hot Ash: used by Fire Sprites, 66% chance of 2x
Burn on everyone.
- Stormy: used by Wind Sprites, same as weather.
- Electric: used by Thunder Sprites, same as weather.
- Earthquake: used by Rock Sprites, 50% chance of 2x
Stagger on everyone.
- Acid Rain: used by Mutant Chompers, 66% chance of 3x
Poison on everyone.
Changing weather[]
Only certain summons and Limit Breaks can temporarily change the battle's weather. Their weather lasts for 5 turns, except for the Nuke skill, whose weather only lasts 3 turns. Applying a temporary weather on top of another one will completely cancel the old one. Foes can't change weather, except when using Nuke.
The following table lists which skills and summons can be used to bring in a certain type of weather.

In Calculations[]
To control strength and accuracy of weather attacks, two entities were made to provide necessary stats: Player weather and Foe weather. The latter scales with Matt's current level, and the former scales with his level - 1.
Player weather[]
Stats | Calculation (bold = base value) |
---|---|
Attack & Magic Attack |
floor(8 * 1.159 ^ level)
|
Accuracy | floor(6 * 1.099(3) ^ level) * 2
|
Used by:
- Spells cast by weather aimed at foes.
- Acid Rain, Blizzard, Cursed Land, Earthquake, High Gravity, Hot Ash, Huge Hail, Low Gravity, Rain, Sandstorm and Stormy weathers, for both players and foes.
- Summons, including those randomly cast by equipment, but only for Accuracy — damage is up to Summon Attack.
- Bouncing at foes by Blue Creep, Green Creep and Red Creep.
- Supernova's recoil when cast by foes.
Foe weather[]
- Attack: 4
- Magic Attack: 4
- Accuracy: 4
All follow standard foe stats scaling, including difficulty.
Used by:
- Spells cast by weather aimed at players.
- The Pencil Stab spell used by the Sketch Bosses (GunKat-800XL, Papalotl, Xolotl and Glaurung).
- Black Hole's and Supernova's recoil when cast by players.
- Recoil from the final boss summon.
"Weather Storage"[]
There is a glitch in EBF5 where manually-changed weather will carry over to another battle if the foes in the first battle are defeated while the weather is still active. Upon further testing, players discovered the "Weather Storage" exploit; by winning a battle on the foes' turn (via counter, auto-skill, damage-over-time status, etc.) while the weather has been changed by the player, that weather's effect is guaranteed to trigger on the first turn of the next battle the players enter.
For an example of Weather Storage in action, this video shows it being used to facilitate a One-Turn Kill on Matteus. The process is as follows:
- First, the player has Lance use Nuke in battle with Natalia, changing the weather to Radiation. The party then immediately flees the battle.
- Next, the player battles a Hermit Creep in Hope Harbor; note that the weather is still Radiation. The party passes their turns, allowing the Gas Mask's Poison Gas auto-skill to kill the Creep on its turn; this activates the Weather Storage glitch.
- Finally, the player returns to the Temple of Trials and battles Matteus. The weather is still Radiation, and thanks to Weather Storage, its effect activates immediately upon entering the battle.
